I give it 4 out of 5 stars. It was pretty darn good. The end got a little campy, but still pretty fun. A decent remake of Wes Craven's better B-movie horrors.
I woulda given it 4 1/2 but I have to warn everyone that there is a rape scene about half-way through the movie. Although I enjoy a good slasher flick with body parts flyin' every which way, I have a very hard time with rape no matter what. I'm very surprised that the movie didn't receive an NC-17 rating because of that. I almost walked outta the film.
When the dudes enter the camper the first time, that's a good time to get a refill on popcorn or just stand outside for about 5 minutes if you have a problem with rape like I do.
Anyway, it was a real fun flick. Check it out.
OT: The actor that played "Doug" looked very much like the actor who played Michael Bolton on Office Space. Not the same guy, but they look and sound similar. It was kinda funny.

Ugh...are you sure you actually watched the movie?
Seriously, I saw this movie and it was as bad if not worse than Wolf Creek. It started out interesting enough (the intro credits and music is kinda creepy), but when a retired detective thinks it was the heat that blew out the four tires on his truck and the four tires on his camper, all at the same time, I knew I was in for a pretty dumb movie. And I was right, because the characters intelligence decreased exponentially with each encounter with the mutants (which by the way, were more realistic looking twenty years ago in Mad Max).
Maybe I was still bitter from finding out that Pulse had its release date pushed back, but I thought this movie blew.
Listen to olePigeon if you like, but you've been warned
And for what it's worth, I kinda agree with oldPigeon on the rape thing. It just sorta seemed outta place in the movie, especially since it was the teenage daughter that was raped. Too much?*shrug* I don't know...compared to her sister getting her head blown off which I'm not complaining about, probably not.

"The movie is a one-trick pony. We have the eaters and the eatees, and they will follow their destinies until some kind of desperate denouement, possibly followed by a final shot showing that It's Not Really Over, and there will be a "The Hills Have Eyes II." Of course, there was already "The Hills Have Eyes II" (1985), but then again there was "The Hills Have Eyes" (1977) and that didn't stop them. Maybe this will. Isn't it pretty to think so."

It sounds like it is worth seeing.

Sorry, I love the horror genre, and my opinion is that it sucked. But on the other hand, I've never seen ****ing hamlet.
I'm not telling people to not see it, just not to be surprised if they find it's not a "4 out of 5 stars" movie.

I thought it was allright because it was an "OK, worst case scenario this could happen." I'm a fan of the possible. The Exorcist, Last House on the Left, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Wicker Man, Amityville Horror, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Night of the Living Dead, Blair Witch Project; I find those types of Horrors real fun.
Plus, anyone taking this particular horror seriously was in for a disappointment. It was a remake of one of Wes Craven's first films, and it was pretty bad (but a classic.) I think the Director got a little confused at one point, too. The beginning started off like it was gonna be a "take it serious" remake, but then (as I mentioned) it got kinda campy.
Then on the other side of the spectrum, I like gory chop 'em up stuff with people getting mangled. Sort of explore your darker side. Hellraisor I and II are my personal "slaughter" favorites. Nightmare on Elm Street I (III was OK, the rest were... meh), Holloween I and II, and Friday the 13th Parts 1 and 2.
Looking back, I will agree, 4 out of 5 was too high. I'd revise my score to 3 1/2. But it wasn't horrible.

I love old campy horror movies with slashing violence and nudity, but the scene where the family watches their father burned alive and the rape of the teenager ruined it for me. These scenes we're necessary and it bothered me because the director seemed to be enjoying them a bit too much. Were they in Wes Craven's original?

That would be a big NO.
I believe that todays movies are much like todays music. It's already been done before. When there's nothing left that's new, you regurgitate the past.
And, sorry. What made The Hills endearing years ago and a "classic" won't be had with this remake. Without James Whitworth (played Jupiter in the first) and Dee Wallace, what's the point?
