I am permanently online in my office and catch myself spending much too much time surfing around. Whenever I have a complicated thing to do and make a break I read an article online, post something here or surf a couple of favorite sites and - oops - have wasted a lot of time and have completely forgotten what I was working on.

On the other hand from time to time I work in the library. There I am not connected to the internet and suddenly I am unbelievably productive.

Being online impedes productivity.
Do you also have that problem? How do you deal with it?

Use the computer to your advantage, use 'todo' programs to alert you on what task you need to be doing at a certain time, then you'll never forget, and if it's got an alert alarm, it'll annoy the crap outta you until you do it

I think I need counselling OR a job I'm actually interested in. I can't believe I've not been sacked for the time I spend on the internet. I'm sure the day will come.

I've tried all kinds of things. Here is an interesting link I found. It's not helped me though, but might be of use to you:http://www.lifehacker.com/software/g...ion-130447.php

I used to spend about 1.5 - 2 hours a day surfing at work. Much of it was really work related too. Now I'm in school and I have even less time to surf! What a concept!

I work for an ISP so I'm on the internet all day. Doing either work related stuff or just surfing for my own enjoyment.

My job involves several activities when I'm waiting for computer output in order to figure out what to do next. Sometimes I take this time and do productive things like documentation or reading manuals. But sometimes not.

Edit: In a very freaky coincidence, as I was posting that, our local NFS server took a dump. I guess I'll do some more surfing until it gets fixed....

My company has a "strict" policy on web use. So far I've only had a couple of sites blocked. I'd have to say I spend half my day wasting time. On the other hand, I'm salary and commission, making sales hardly takes any time.

About an hour a day broken up into 5 to 10 minute sessions. Seems pretty good.

I don't surf on the net at all while at work.

I do when I'm on break or there is not much work to do. Many nights I'll watch a video or movie on my iPod during breaks, but alas, I'm on break now doing what, surfing MacNN, lol...

Hard to say how much exactly. The majority of the time I spend surfing is indeed reading a lot of science and programming related stuff on the net. This qualifies me and in the end also my job profits.

What he said... 'Cept they've disabled Flash and most audio/video codecs here, so it seems 30% of the Intarweb is unusable.
