Holy Yao! She's incredibly tall!

Unfortunately, she doesn't look as anatomically proportional as Yao Ming; this suggests more of an abnormality in growth and development. On the other hand, she looks a lot better than a lot of "giantism" victims, and at least so far doesn't seem to have any trouble with her joints, a particularly troubling issue for a lot of exceptionally tall people.

My goddaughter visited China a few years ago. She's blonde and about 5'10" tall. She remarked that the biggest thing she noticed was being stared at by EVERYONE. China seems to be a place where conformity is as important as it is in Japan; standing out must be hard for anyone, particularly when you're taller than everyone else while you're sitting down.

Hell, 5'10" blondes get stared at a lot around here too.

It also depends on where in China I suppose. Caucasians are commonplace in some areas, and not so much in other areas. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if she was stared at a lot even in downtown Beijing given that she's so tall.

Apparently the quality of stares is culturally significant; she's used to stares here at home, but she said these were very different.

And I don't think I have her permission to post her picture or I would. Striking is an understatement. She must get it from my side of the family.

Not really nowadays in the biggest cities. Depends where you are. But yeah, a good-looking 5'10" blond woman will attract attention even in Beijing.

Not famous, but my older sister played both basketball and volleyball all through college and my little sister can do either/both if she wants to, but she's got a year to decide.
