there were 3 Audi Q7 sport utes in the Audi corral, only one had a US license plate, and it was a manufacturers tag

my friend's ZO6 corvette was in the 'vette corral, it's got 427ci under the hood, Fikse wheels, competition roll bar, and a healthy shot of nitrous:

everything from manufacturers displays to racers and their cars parked around the racetrack looking to pack things up and go home after a long weekend.. there were races on fri, sat, and sunday involving many different classes and such with the 12 hr. endurance race being the big event of the weekend.

and here's some pics from around the track, it was a long fun day:

The CLK DTM has better technology than those cars running there.

Lucky dude who owns it… there are only 100 in all the world.

That's cool. Environmentally friendly racing without taking a performance knock.

Well… give me -if possible- some numbers about the contenders… Number of cylinders/arrangement, engine displacement, rated output, max engine speed (rpm), fuel comsuption, tank capacity, kerb weight…

I don't follow races in the USA but I have read in another topic some kind of limitations in the regulations about engines… if by any mean they are placing limitations on some engines (petrol) versus diesel, then that is not fair.

Want to place a diesel engine into a F1?, LOL go ahead… but do it with the actual limitations petrol engines get, 2.4 litres, eight cylinders, no turbo… and be prepared to be everyone's laugh

Nevertheless and most important fact… diesel is a bastard for human's health.

http://www.audiworld.com/news/05/r10/content.shtml Pretty amazing accomplishment if you ask me. Seems that the real benefit is the fuel economy. They are even using larger overall tire circumferences to further increase tire longevity in order to maximize the the economy of the engine. Also looks as though it has to adhere by the same rules/regulations as the gas engines.

No doubt that a diesel engine is not best suited for F1 type(non-endurance) racing, especially with the limitation on turbos, but for this specific class it seems very well suited.
