Possess a radar-like sense for bugs? Can you make guesses about how an application is going to fail, then prove whether you're right? Have the ability to put yourself in a less-experienced user's shoes and predict how they'll use our applications? Once you find a problem, can you communicate it clearly and effectively to the folks who need to fix it? If so, we'd like to hear from you.

A Software Test Pilot spends his or her day creatively exercising our applications as we build them. This involves both finding new issues and verifying bug fixes after engineers have worked on them. You'll collaborate with engineers and product managers to find the best balance of features, stability, and schedules.

We often have multiple projects in different stages of the development process at the same time. Our plans for our apps constantly change as we develop them; your plans will need to adjust accordingly - sometimes several times in one week.

We'd also ask you to think of ways to improve QA itself - new tests we could be running, or ways we can prevent bugs our customers found from sneaking past us again.

If you'd like to apply for this job, visit http://www.omnigroup.com/company/jobs and follow the instructions on that page.

Oh what little do you know, my turtle-loving friend. Omni rocks!

Pff, I know they are making good software.

BUT:

1) If they need qualified people, how about recruiting in the "Software forum"
2) It IS unsolicited advertisement. Their product is a job.
3) They should have asked if they can recruit. Others have done that before.

It would be less appropriate there, since it is not actually a discussion of software.

You're the only one so far who seems to think it's unwelcome.

Clearly, they correctly felt that the community welcomes news and inquiries from Omni. And how do you know they didn't PM tooki and ask?

Really, this seems on the topic of a Mac forum, and it's not as though he's posting in huge bulk across a bunch of inappropriate forums.

Really ? But the Lounge is a place to post your job openings ? News to me.

My point is this: You're cutting the guy slack because he's from Omni. Fair enough.
But just think what would happen if suddenly dozens of job postings would flood in here, because people thought it's a great idea. Yeah, I know, wonderful prospect...

If they were all specific enough to apply to the Mac community but general enough that they shouldn't go somewhere more specific (like someplace targeted at the Mac programming community), I would say they're welcome, but perhaps merit their own section. I think it would be awesome to have that many Mac jobs available.

And the Lounge is kind of a general place for anything not better covered elsewhere.

Well, there was a request a while ago for a job forum. I would welcome that.
Until then, I could think of the Marketplace as an appropriate place to post.

I did a google search for "macintosh job opportunities" and saw other job-offer posts to the macnn forums in the lounge. I wish I had thought of pming the moderators before hand, but I didn't. Assumption was that it was of interest to the community. If we've offended anyone, please accept my apologies.

You, you CAN'T be a spammer, spammers never ask for an apology.

I know from the past that people DID ask the mods, so that is the ideal route.

I still think that this would have fit better in the Software forum, because you have people that HELP others fix issues, and they know a lot about usability and how "n00bs" use and relate to software. Maybe even some of the mods of the Programmers and / or Software forum would be interested.

Point is this: here in the Lounge, you have such a mixed bag, a "serious" inquiry like yours is more likely to be overlooked. Plus, we ARE burned here with spam.

Omni Support Guy,

Thanks for posting here. Are you looking for WA state locals only?

Other readers: if there were a flood of job listings, we'd add a Job Postings forum. Until then, here is alright.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Can I suggest to make a "JOBLISTING" prefix mandatory in the title.
Would make things easier to identify.

Besides, it's Omnigroup. They're cool in my book.

I'm not sure why that would be necessary. In fact, the thread title 'Omni Group seeks software test pilot [QA]' seems quite descriptive to me. Were you duped or confused by this?

Jesus Christ, quit with the stupid forum copping/modding people and ****ing CHILL OUT!

I'm starting to see Tooki's point of view. Too many rules make people whine. Too few rules and a more hands off approach people causes people to whine too.

Quit with the stupid armchair modding, it does nobody any good. This thread has not caused your world to unravel, and arguing about it requires more time than is required to simply IGNORE the thread!

Grrrrrr...

We're hoping to find a candidate in the Seattle area, but we're also considering candidates from other locations. We're not looking for a remote worker - we need someone here in the office with us. We are willing to consider helping out with relocation expenses.
