In a stunning move, BAPCo, the industry-standard Windows benchmarking consortium, announced that Apple Computer has joined up as a member. BAPCo is responsible for the SYSmark 2004SE and MobileMark benchmark suites we use at PC Magazine Labs for testing PCs. BAPCo also produces the webserver test WEBmark.

I have no doubt this is another step toward OSX on regular PCs with a well defined support list.

I have no doubt that Macs will be running Windows Vista as the default OS.
All the clues are there.
Intel Inside.
Steve Jobs sells Pixar.
Steve Jobs sells fully half of his Apple stock.
He's outta here.

Wonder if this and Avi leaving Apple are at all related. And what potentially big changes will come with Leopard. Should be an interesting year for the Mac OS, I suppose.

What makes you say that? What do Windows application-based benchmarks have to do with OS X running on generic PCs? Absolutely nothing. No, this announcement seems to suggest that Apple is going to be certifying the Mactels as Windows compatible, or, at least, Windows application compatible. It also brings Dvorak's latest, ostensibly wacky prediction closer to becoming reality.

Why shouldn't Apple get Windows running on their hardware? They sell fantastic hardware... They also make a good bit of money off of their hardware.
I think more people would buy Mac hardware if they knew they could run Windows on the systems. And they might even give OS X a try... which is a good thing.

I can't help but think that if Macs could run Windows as easily as any PC, then Apple would sell a *lot* more Macs. Wouldn't that be a good thing? I'm not suggesting that Macs should ship with Windows instead of OSX - but maybe offer a dual-boot BTO option.
