I'm a goal setter. Always have been. But, on occasion, I look back and wish that I had done certain things, for one reason or another, in my life.

I'm curious what everyone else's goals and regrets might be.

My list of regrets:
  • When I was younger, I wish I would have joined the Marine Corps. Unfortunately, medical reasons would have prevented it.
  • I wish I would have taken time off between high school and college to travel. I probably would have really known what I wanted in college and gone after it.
  • I wish I would have tried out for my college baseball team. My lifelong dream was to play pro, and I was probably a good enough hitter. But with my bum ankle, my speed was a factor in holding me back.
  • I grew up with three athletes I looked up to: Reggie Jackson, Wayne Gretzky and John Elway. I only saw Reggie in person before retirement.
  • I wish I wouldn't have gotten lazy and regained the weight after losing 85 pounds.

My list of goals:
  • Re-lose that weight, plus some. I want to get back to where I was in high school, the best shape of my life.
  • I want to re-learn how to speak German.
  • I want to travel - New Zealand and Europe are on my list. My wife is an Anglophile who lived in the UK for two years. She wants to show me around.
  • I want to write a novel and get it published. I have about 60 pages in Word on it, and the reset in my head.
  • I want to keep my business going and be successful enough to build a new house and retire early.

That's all I can think of right now. But I thought it would be interesting to share and learn about other people's goals and regrets.

Now talk amongst yourselves...

Too much.

I'm 6'2" and a little over 300#. Goal is to get to 250 for now, then another goal will be set. I'm a big framed guy (always have been), broad shoulders, big thick, strong legs.

When I lost weight before, I went from about 320# to 255#, but gained about 20-25# of muscle. Roughly 85# of fat loss.

Best shape of my life I was 220#.

Regret: Not going long on AAPL at $57-$61
Reason: Who would have predicted an insignificant iPod software update and capitulation to Windows would cause such a move?

Regrets.

- None, been lucky enough to learn from the mistakes I've made.

Goals.

- Get back to the fitness I was in when in the SAF.
- Getting more degrees in various fields (Thinking about an MBA at the moment)
- To stop drinking >1L of Coke each day as well as stop smoking.
- See my signature for more.

I'd like to learn other languages as well as German. Took lots of German in high school/college (was my minor at one point.) I also took some Japanese in high school and some French.

I'd like to learn Arabic, seems to be an interesting and beautiful language.

von Wrangell - That is a lot of Coke! When I quit caffiene, stopped drinking soda, etc. it was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I'm not a smoker, but I can't see how stopping smoking would be any harder than caffeine!

Ya, it's way too much! Just can't stop. Too much of an addict. If I like something I will do a lot of it. It's even got so far that if I don't get any coke for the whole day (don't drink coffee) I get withdrawal symptoms. It should come with the same warmings as are on the cigarette packs.

Stopping smoking is from my experience a lot more difficult than stopping getting any caffeine. After all, nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to men (in the same bracket as heroin).

But hopefully this will all end this year. Just have to.

Regrets:

Spending 10 years of my life in a relationship that didn't benefit me in any way whatsoever.

Spending 16 years of my life in a career that didn't benefit me in any way whatsoever.

Listening to everybody that told me "what I needed to do in order to be happy". I had everything I was supposed to have when I was only 25....and I still wasn't happy. It was quite a disappointment.

Life Goals:

Marry a hot redhead that likes to wear skirts.

Continue with my house-building venture until I'm able to stop working altogether.

Build my own damn house.

Adopt a child - if the redhead thing doesn't pan out. I'm gettin old, ya know.

Hey I am not saying 165 suites everyone that is 6.2. It really depends on your skeletal frame.

I used to drink one or two Red Bulls or a Rockstar and then start on the Dew or Coke and drink probably 32-64 oz. during the day.

Plus I would take caffiene pills...

The headaches when I stopped (cold turkey) were excruciating!

Good luck!

You know, after dating a hot red head you learn that spending your life with one isn't such a great idea.

I'm dating a non-red head 3/4 Irish girl now, and my sanity slightly better, although the Irish in her pops out every so often. Thank god she's not an Irish redhead though.

I wish I had gotten more poon when I was younger. I wasted way to much time in long term relationships. Even though I am now very happily married, I wish I had taken more risks in this department when I was knee deep in bitches.

I wish I had gone to school, even though I am doing better then 90% of my friends with college degrees.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

So it's fight you like? You wanna try an Italian redhead (they exist, I dated one). They're completely nutso. Leave the dunny seat up and they'll scream at you at about 160 dB. For a month. In Italian.

Regrets;
I burned a few bridges in the past.
I didn't pick a specific career in college - business degree
I should have bought a PowerMac instead of a "temporary" mini

Goals:
Get accepted to UF grad school and get my masters in Architecture >> Get licensed and actually do something I enjoy -- designing.
Move to a city more suited to my tastes.
Buy a large sailboat and boat shoes. Have people start calling me "Uncle Ken" (my name is Nick)
Start a small family with the right girl.

The phrase "it's never too late" is absolutely true. I'm about to turn 47, and I am in school for a brand new career in a completely new field (for me). I have also gotten tired of my waistline feeling squished, so I'm doing something about that, too.

When I retired from the Air Force, all my compatriots were retiring into nice Civil Service jobs doing pretty much what they had been for the last 20 years, but not me! I'd been tired of managing electronics maintenance for years, so I found a new place for myself-in Occupational Therapy. I start in the school in May.

I'm also 6'2" tall, and at around 230 I'm way too heavy, particularly for my age. On top of that, military service was not good on my feet, ankles, knees and hips, so it's not easy to get into a nice jogging or bicycling routine. But I CAN walk, and walk I do. A couple of miles in the morning makes me feel pretty darn good the rest of the day!

Regrets are for right after you made the decision and then get time to think it through. I try to avoid that situation by thinking things out before I decide, and if I choose wrong because of poor or incomplete information, I learn from it. I can't go back and undo the past, but I can avoid the same thing in the future. That's my advice-passed on from some old and wise heads who thought it worthwhile to pass on to me.
