How can anyone say that? They make some of the coolest cars at the moment. A8 is about as close to well designed elegant understatement you can get with a £80,000 luxo-barge IMO.

well...one - its an opinion. And two - they have a less than desirable track record with reliability. I've never owned one, so I can't validate. Just what I've heard.

As for that TT - they need to bring out an S version or something. Otherwise, it's a chic car. Like the Z roadster/coupes. No offense for anyone that has one.. I wanted one when it came out... but wow.. its still pretty heavy for a small car without a lot of power.

I wouldn't say it looks THAT much like the G35.

Besides, VAG designs are ripped off all the time. For instance, put the new Ford 500 next to the B5/B5.5 Passats...

Total rip...

A couple of reasons: we've owned two Audis (big expensive ones), they were crap. Utter crap. Incredibly uncomfortable suspensions as well. Other reason is just a question of taste, I find Audi to make the most boring cars you can buy these days, they all look the same and the huge ass nose thing they got goin is just..meh.
Don't get me wrong, they're not bad cars these days but Audi will never ever get my money.

Well, that is YOUR OPINION and I respect it.

A8 is a joke compared to the S Class, it is not even as good as the previous S Class, the real benchmark here.

As for the TT, it doesn't even look a new car… just the typical silly restyling auto makers love these days. Come on, place it side by side with a SLK, huge LOL

I've been in an S500 Mercedes and an Audi A8L, and (if I owned 'em both )I'd probably have to take the audi any time I went out in it(as a rear-seat passenger and definitely as the driver).

And the latest A8 is powered by the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10. That's awesome

TT looks nice I guess.

From what I've read the MB's have the worst suspension of any of the luxo-sedans. Comfy, maybe, but certainly not a competetive car.

This TT looks worse than the old one, meh.

You're right, the S Class is the daddy in that class of car. But image-wise I think that the A8 comes off better. The new S Class looks like it was designed in Korea and the massive amounts of technology can only get a car so far (exhibit 1: Maybach). Not saying the S Class is a bad car; just talking about image which is something entirely different.

As for the TT, it doesn't even look a new car… just the typical silly restyling auto makers love these days. Come on, place it side by side with a SLK, huge LOL
The problem with re-styling the TT is that they're working with a design classic. It was never going to get better. It's like trying to restyle the current PowerBooks; they've gone along that line of neo-modernism as far as is possible, that's why they're hardly changing them these days. The only way forwards is totally different.

Oh my, hyundai people is going to be preoud of you, no wonder they got the upcoming Soccer World Championship title sponsor… in Germany !!

No idea how this can be related to Korean design…

As for technology, that is what I could expect, useful technology, not wasted tech gyzmos lots of makers are placing in their cars… here is how it works:

Chinesses copy Koreans, Koreans copy Japaneses, Japaneses copy Europeans, Europeans copy Mercedes Benz. Everybody wants a 'whatever name you like'-tronic device inside their car. From the biggest thing to the minimal details… give a try to the MB iPod integration system and then try any other in the market.

And don't forget the S Class is the world's first car with an environmental certificate. No wonder, the S Class motto is 'Be ahead'.

No, it isn't, it just shows other maker being unable to achieve and deliver, car history has plenty of them, from the Citroën DS with a Maseratti V6 engine, the Lancia Thema 8.32 with a Ferrari engine to this Audi with a Lambo engine…

And for the white car… then don't get a Diesel model, even when Audi US wants you buying Diesel, right?… your rear bumber is gonna to be black in no time.

As willed said, the "old" TT's a classic design that a restyling could never improve.
I feel no desire to trade in my roadster for this (yet).

And as for the Hausfrauenporsche remark, what_the_heck, screw you - that's just jealousy talking

I don't think the A8 is a particularly beautiful car either mind you.

As for the TT/SLK comparison - I owned the previous model SLK and had a long-term rental on the previous version of the TT too so I can compare better than most. Quattro 3.2 TT (I think) and the 3 litre SLK (white) which was my pride and joy. I've always been a Mercedes fan but the TT was a better car, no question. No time to go into details but I explained it away on the basis that the old SLK was known to be particularly bad. Maybe the new one is better but I just don't like the design of the new one and I've really grown out of the rooflines these hardtop convertibles have. If I were in the market right now, I'd consider the TT because I like the design inside and out. It looks better. Now we just need to see how it performs. That said, I think the Audi S4 is probably the next car I'll buy. Better than the M3 and anything Merc makes according to Top Gear.

It looks more like an Audi and less like a VW.

My buddy with a TT already wants one, but I dunno... I kinda like the beetle-on-steriods look of the current TT.

The old TT was a paradigm of gorgeous Bauhaus design. This new one is a messy bastardization of that car – shame, especially because that’s a really nice interior.

Dammit, Audi.

I like the new TT. My preference is still for a Porsche, but I'll bet the luxury factor in the Audi is considerably higher.

When I was 19 I was driving my Dad's Audi about. He had just got some electrical work done on it, and they screwed something up. It backfired and caught on fire on my way to the store to get something to drink.

Me being on LSD at the time didn't help.

He bought a Merkur Scorpio after that.

He has always liked German cars. Had a BMW and a Porsche as well.

Ohhhh, damn.

In my honest opinion, the Infiniti G35 Couple without the spoiler is the most beautiful mass-production car in North America at the moment. It's incredibly sleek and subtle, while yet still retaining the agressiveness of a sports car. I'm not a fan of the spoiler on it, though – I tend to think it spoils the gorgeous lines and shape of the rear end.

I'd say the same thing about the M45 – just a gorgeous sedan, with a ton of class and the balls to match.

Mmmmmm. I'm getting all excited thinking about it. I wish I could hurry up with school and start making some money soon....

C'mon!! A8 OWNS M45. Not in the same ballpark, league, or country even. G35, M45 - GREAT cars, just.. you don't try to compare them to the A8..

I saw another one tonight (black) on factory 20" wheels. grow some balls and go see it at a dealer.

again: foolish to try and compare an Infiniti (of any ilk) to the Audi A8. If you are trying, you just know not what you speak of!

Too bad its very plain jane looking, and for $39,000 more (for the base model), I think Ill stick with my G

I just don't see spending $75Gs on a car when for that I can drive a 650i and have better looks, performance and package then the Audi.

Anyway, back on topic... the TT picture here, the interior is very boring looking, something we have seen many many times. The only thing I like is the stitched gauge cover, but it looks like an afterthought.

Oh, I know exactly of what I'm speaking of!

Well for sure the M45 is in a lower class than the A8 – and Infiniti's luxury-class Q series doesn't really seem terribly spectacular to me style-wise, to be honest. But what I'm saying is, the A8's style simply doesn't deliver the kind of attention such a luxury car deserves. When I see an A8, I say "wow, that's an A8" – I look because I know its reputation, but in itself the car doesn't grab my attention. I think it's slightly too "thin" looking somehow, despite the recent attempts to make the nose a little more agressive. As far as I'm concerned, this is even more apparent in the M45's true competitor, the A6…the front ends just end up wimping right out somehow. I don't know; I find Audis in general are very standard-looking and "safe" when it comes to style.

On the other hand, I think the M45's design makes it look better than its price point warrants. It manages to maintain the "I'm for luxury, not sport" status while still pulling off an agressive look – compared to the Audi, its hood is slightly higher and more muscular, the back end is pumped up, and the cab a little heavier in the back. Add to that a more interesting light design, and to be honest I don't even see a straight comparison. It's not flashy enough to look garish or seem like its trying to hard, but when you see one on the street (I've only seen a few, yet) you see guys peering at the back end, wondering what it is. Add to that, of course, that the M45 Sport will beat anything from the A6 or A8 line but the W12 A8 in the 1-100 km/h, and you know things are getting interesting (considering you could almost buy another A8 L with the price difference between the two!).

So, yeah. I know the M45 is middle-class luxury, but it's a middle class that blows the doors off the A6. The A8 may be a higher "status symbol" in the luxury class, but as far as I'm concerned the $30+ grand separating the two isn't warranted if you're talking purely design and style.
