I take off my hat to salute you all.

A quick question about AppleCare:
On Apple site, it said:
We recommend that you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan when you purchase your Apple system to take maximum advantage of the coverage the plan provides.

Does this mean you must purchase apple care at the same time when you purchase the computer, or you are allowed to purchase it later.

Also I am assuming that most mac user will buy AppleCare if they buy something as expensive as a PB or a MBP, am I right?

You can buy it any time in the first year. Apple's marketing department would like you to buy it right away.

I did not get Applecare for my Powerbook. I had it on the previous one, which died every few months. I no longer buy it, nor do I recommend others in the family buy it.

Thank you for your reply. I'll definitely postpone AppleCare purchase.

I prefer insurance over AppleCare. If a computer doesn't show any faults in the first year, I figure there probably aren't any that will kill it in the second and third years. But there's always the possibility that some klutz carrying too much stuff might accidentally faceplant while holding his PowerBook, which AppleCare would be no help with but insurance will take care of.

I've heard lots of good things about Safeware... last I priced it out, it was ~150/yr for $2000 in laptop.

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

I'm glad I got my Applecare as my G5 was serviced a few times.
