Don't know, but I wouldn't go with them.
I've heard a lot of bad stories about godaddy.

I love Godaddy and have always found their customer service people helpful. And as far as I know, transfers are not charged.

Agreed, GoDaddy seems to be reliable from my experience. It's folks with other registrars that seem to have huge problems.

Same here - I've never encountered any issues with the 5+ domains I've registered through them in the past 2 years.

Add me to the list of GoDaddy supporters... I have bought five or six domains from them in the last 8 years and they are excellent to work with.

There is no charge for transferring your domain. Well, there may be one with the place you are transferring to.

Actually, if I can add - I've registered at least 25 domains with GoDaddy and they are my favorite registrar except for this one thing: The add-on products. Always pushing more add-ons.

They rock, though, WAY better than NetSol...

The combination of GoDaddy and Dreamhost.

No problems with GoDaddy so far...

I really like godaddy, works well for me.

You should be able to transfer your godaddy domain to another godaddy account for free.

Godaddy is a very good registrar. They're not the cheapest, although they're close; their reliability, as well as the features and elegance of their control panel more than compensate for the couple extra dollars they charge in comparison to the cheapest outfits around. And to the OP, Godaddy does not charge for domains transferred from it - I am pretty sure that would be a violation of ICANN regulations.

If you click the expert buyer check box on the initial registration screen, they won't pump those additional products. Additionally, I do not think I have ever received a marketing email from Godaddy.

You can say that again, and again, and ten times again. NetSol is putrid waste. They can seriously screw the customer in a myriad of ways. A year ago now I followed legal advice from the head of a law firm specializing in intellectual property and the internet - he told me to stay with Network Solutions. As a result NetSol screwed my corporation big time, and the matter still has not been resolved (although it should finally be resolved within the month). This lawyer certainly should have foreseen the possibility NetSol would take the ridiculous action it took.

Godaddy, incidentally, had the opportunity to screw my corporation over a related domain in the same manner but did not do so. I should have trusted my inclination to transfer from NetSol to Godaddy, but I chose to follow the lawyer's advice. Stupid me. So, the moral is one should avoid NetSol like the plague. There are reasons why there are sites devoted to how evil NetSol is.

Yup, GoDaddy are great. No problems, either with domains already registered and transferred to them or with domains registered with them.

Since you own the domain and not GoDaddy, I believe if it's unlocked they're required to process transfer requests.

Heh

According to Netcraft's April numbers, Microsoft gained 4.71% marketshare in the month while Apache lost 5.98%.

Someone suggested that the 1.27% 'other' share was due to the top secret Nintendo DS Mario vs Wario HTTP server game, but I doubt that.

We do think that the speculation, repeated by Netcraft, that this is due to GoDaddy defecting to Microsoft is true.

While it's tangential to this thread, thank you for brining up that news, Kevin. Very interesting.

GoDaddy does not charge to transfer domains away from them. However, good luck getting it done. About 3 months I wanted to transfer just one of my 14 domains away from them. They denied the transfer over and over again (yes the domain was unlocked), then hung up on me when I called to ask why. They broke ICANN rules governing transfers and hung up on me AGAIN after I called them back, gave them this URL, and asked them very politely to point out which of the 9 "reasons for denial" (section 3) they were using to deny my transfer:

http://www.icann.org/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm

I called GoDaddy weekly to demand answers. In every case, I was told they would look into it if I could just hold. I would, and I would be disconnected EVERY TIME within 10 or 15 minutes. Finally, about a month ago I attempted another transfer and it went though. I immediately transferred ALL my domains (remember, I was originally only transferring one) away from them and now warn people of their shady business practices whenever I see their name mentioned. I still to this day have no explanation as to why it suddenly worked nor why they denied my transfer for months. Of course, the email they sent me every time they denied the transfer stated that it was due to the fact that I registered the domain in question less than 60 days ago. These domains have been registered since 1998 to 2000 and at GoDaddy since 2002. So that is a lie.

So for all the GoDaddy lovers here who say it won't be a problem, have you actually *tried* to transfer your domains away from them before?

I have found 1and1.com cheap ($6) for registration... and (most importantly) easy (through their domain management cp) to redirect the dns to another host -- since their hosting packages are not best price for my needs.

The last time (couple months ago), I immediately set up hosting at DreamHost very smoothly with the 1and1 cp. At that time I got $60 off at DreamHost with the “ SIMPLY60OFF ” promo code, for an annual hosting net of only $69 for several Gigs of space. ... someone said they may have discontinued the promo code feature. Anyone know for sure?

Hell, I couldn't get network solutions to transfer my domain name, either. I'm guessing it's a widespread problem - the whole transfer thing.

What are ya gonna do? *shrugs*

No registrar I've ever heard of seems to process transfers with the diligence required by ICANN.

The domain registrar industry is, so far, an overall sleazy and unregulated industry.

I was able to transfer away from DreamHosts very easily...

memory-minus: you had trouble transferring (for free) 1 out of the 14 domains you tranfered and so you now warn people about their business practices? seems a bit extreme in my mind.

I wasn't clear. After the transfer for the one domain I wanted to move was denied, I attempted to transfer all 14 domains during those 2 months to see if it was a problem with just that one domain and was completely unsuccessful on all counts. They repeatedly denied all transfers for 2 months with no reasonable explanation. Not to mention the fact they HUNG UP ON ME every time I attempted to contact them for help. They're the ones who went to extremes to lose my business.

Over the years I've transferred 10+ domains between registrars several times without a single problem until I started doing business with GoDaddy.
