I'm a writer who currently uses Word to jot down ideas for scripts, novels, characters, etc.
Problem is, I have like says 1000 ideas over the past 8 years and it's hard to find them quickly. I have to go throw them and hope the title of my document gives insight to what I wrote in the actually document.
So i'm looking for an journal/note program that I can just scroll throw the titles and instantly see what's in them without having to double click. But I always want it to be one that is easy to backup to CD so I don't lose them. One where they have a backup folder that I can find without much hassle. I'm sure all the programs save the files, but are they easy to transfer to a new computer 3 years from now?
The two ones I found that look good are sharware programs called XNIPPETS and iOrganize. Very simple. I demoed some of the other ones like Omni Outliner, but I found them not having Apple ease of use.
So I guess I'm looking for what Apple might name "iNewton" if they added it to their iLife package. What is the most apple like ease of use note program if all I want is to organize my ideas and find them as quickly as looking at a 3 ring binder with handwritten notes.
Maybe I already found the two best programs.
Thank you.

Try Yojimbo. There is already a thread discussing Yojimbo on this forum. And finally, here's a Macworld review and a Macnn review of Yojimbo.
I was a DEVONthink Pro registered user, but after playing around with Yojimbo for a few days, I purchased it.

Yojimbo looks pretty good, but I'm running Panther and you need Tiger.
Notational Velocity didn't have a way to organize by subfolders like "comedy ideas" or "horror ideas".
Any other suggestions. Thanks

how many ideas have you actually used? As in, produced something from.

You might want to look into Ulysses. Specifically written with writers in mind.
