It was bloody huge (for a red back), i soaked it in fly spray and it took about 5 minutes to die. It's currently dead on the floor while i ponder how many layers to toilet paper i'll need to pick it up without screaming. Someone on IRC just told me they like to play dead. I HATE SPIDERS.

We used to find tarantulas and black widows in our dorms.
Hope the rest of his family isn't in your bathroom! I always check under the rim of the toilet whenever i find scary spiders in my house.

Heh, not too far off there. A lot of the buildings, including our dorms, predate the school. We've got all kinds of cool wildlife on our Arizona desert campus, including rattlesnakes and nasty spiders.

Cotten mouths in the back yard.
Golden Silk/Banana spiders in the back yard.
Waterbugs aka Freaking Huge Flying Roaches.
Wolf spiders everywhere.

Mosquitoes.
Etc, etc.

If you get bit by a brown recluse you would change your mind.

My dad has a mild allergy to spider bites and he got bitten by a brown recluse. He was bed ridden for 2 weeks, sick and feverish. All of the veins in his leg puffed out and turned purple and he couldn't walk.

It's amazing all the angst one can have toward a spider. They are just trying to live. If they are not venomous ignore them, if they are venomous take them out somewhere and get rid of them. They won't come back.

If I find ANY bugs in my house I kill it. That is except for spiders. I usually leave the odd spider in my house as they don't want to come near me any more than I want them to. They also kill lots of other bugs.

If I found a poisonous spider though I would get rid of it but there aren't any Black widows in the lower part of the provence where I live.

It's not so much angst, as is the fact that it's the 2nd most venomous spider you can get here and it was living under the computer desk in my bedroom where my feet, legs and other bodily appendages hide while I'm at the computer.

I've only seen scorpions once, up at the hot springs in Camp Verde. Do NOT go in the cave that has another hot spring. I took one step in and saw a lifetime's worth. It still gives me the chills.

I wouldn't worry about rattlesnakes down in Phoenix, it's usually too hot. All my run-ins have been up here hiking in the mountains while climbing over a shaded ledge or down in a gully.

Well, it IS amazing how ignorant people can be, but I guess I would be the same way if I wouldn't suffer from serious (sic!) arachnophobia. During summer, I can't live a normal life since I even refuse to walk into my house when e.g. the light is dead and I can't see the walls in the house floor. That sucks. But I'm going in therapy asap, just waiting for the approval of my health insurance.
