Check this out. I order a few things on the net and I'm waiting for a bunch of deliveries, all from UPS, I didn't have a choice in that matter. The shipments are supposed to arrive close to each other and I follow the online tracking info to find out when they're going to arrive. UPS manages to mess up each single shipment. Not just one, but they get all three wrong, talk about incompetance. Getting one package wrong is a mistake, getting all three wrong is a massive sign of incompetance on their part.
Package # 1 - Somehow they manage to forget the package at their delivery station and it doesn't arrive according to the date in their online tracking service.
MASPETH, NY, US 04/12/2006 8:52 P.M. THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY
WTF ?
Package # 2 - This package is supposed to arrive today and I just checked the online tracking to find out that somebody messed up again !
MASPETH, NY, US 04/13/2006 11:00 P.M. THE SHIPMENT WAS MISROUTED BY RAIL TRANSPORTATION.
WTF ?
Package # 3 - It's supposed to arrive on 4/17, and when I check online today , that one is already out for delivery !
Sched. Delivery: 04/17/2006
MASPETH, NY, US 04/14/2006 6:08 A.M. OUT FOR DELIVERY
WTF ?
Great job UPS, you morons. What's the use in tracking, when every single one is wrong ? Either I'm incredibly unlucky, or UPS sucks, or both.

Both.
I prefer Fedex, but what you experienced, is even not normal for UPS...

You're unlucky. Rail transportation does NOT belong to UPS; they contract some of it and other contractors use it enroute. Missing a package is a problem, sure, but not something that is usually critical; don't be surprised if they wind up getting it out to you anyway.
As for early delivery, most people prfer packages to be delivered earlier rather than later. Of course if you had to arrange your schedule around being available for these deliveries, that's a problem, but consider this: UPS doesn't track WHO GETS THE PACKAGES. They track the packages themselves, and I'll bet all your packages came from very different places. They certainly didn't get "married" so they'd be delivered together; UPS doesn't have that capability.
I'm sorry you are disappointed, but stuff happens. If you call UPS and explain why you're unhappy, they may be able to get things fixed for you.

Renting a mule, strapping the packing on its back and then just pushing it out the door is more reliable than UPS.

Oh, it's alright, it's not that big of a deal really. I'll be happy when I eventually have all of my packages. The only inconvenience is having to rearrange schedules, because I prefer to be home when the package arrives, so they won't just leave it without me being there, something they've done before.

Actually since DHL acquired/merged with Airborne, the home delivery end has gotten a lot better. They seem to be only less competent rather than completely incompetent.
I had a computer delivered by Airborne, (before the merger) and they actually LOST it for two days. Funny, but it was a pretty big box with labels saying who it was going to, and of course where it was coming from, and they apparently just put it on the wrong truck. But it took TWO DAYS for them to find it! Recently, my wife had a document package delivered by Airborne, and they put it on the wrong truck for delivery, but a supervisor chased that truck down and personally delivered it on the same day. They're trying harder, but they are still a "farm club" and not in the big leagues yet.

You're right, my packages did ship from completely different places, I wasn't expecting them to arrive together, but I just found it funny, that all 3 scheduled arrival dates happened to be wrong.

It's spelled "incompet ent" and "incompet ence". You sort of make a fool of yourself if you call someone incompetent while lacking the spelling competence to do so.

Big deal, I just woke up and my brain is still half dead. I don't spell check and I just wrote this thread quickly. Spelling nazis are dumb people. What's worse, failing to deliver 3 packages or misspelling a word on the internet ?

Gah; I've been screwed by UPS so many times... usually, I factor in at least an extra week if they're delivering anything; I lost a week of work-time due to their sloth last summer... they took an extra week to get my D70 back to me from Nikon... I've seen too many mangled boxes delivered by them to ever consider using them as a service. FedEx or DHL for me.
And yes, I've tried calling them and sorting them out over the phone - the level of incompitence there is truly astonishing... and I'm nice over the phone until I've had to make 10 calls... then I just get pissed. One or two would be understandable... 5 is highly annoying and 10 calls makes me want to kill things.

I hear you, and I agree, though you'd better watch out because Mr. Tetenal, the self appointed spelling nazi will be along to tell you that all your points and complaints are invalid because you wrote incompitence. People who have nothing better to do than to point out a freaking spelling mistake on the internet need to get a life.

One thing I want to know, did they forget to take the tags off the box when you got it?

They've all been incompetent at one point or another for me. The worst was when I lived in an apartment in Berkeley and UPS would refuse to leave a package unattended by my door, so I'd have to go pick it up from their distribution center. Their distribution center was in Richmond, only 10 miles away, but subject to some of the worst highway traffic in the Bay Area in the afternoons. I'd go after class and it would take an hour or more to get there. Once I got there at 6:01 and they closed at 6:00, and refused to help me...
Lately UPS has been the most reliable for me though. DHL has been the worst for several reasons, their biggest blunder being when they decided I'd refused a package that they never tried to deliver to me.

Weren't you the guy that posted the long diatribe about the clerk at Macy's not removing the security tags from a pair of jeans and the previous diatribe about getting ID'ed for smokes at a convenience store? If so, this post of yours just seemed to be another in a long line of complaints about the crappy experience you have with those in the service industry so I replied with a (too subtle, apparently) winking smiley.
<Wow, if you really do have to explain a joke it isn't funny. Bummer.>

Ah, ok, I see now.
Yes you're correct, those other posts were written by me also. Believe me though, the UPS blunders and the tag on my jeans was nothing compared to the smoke incident.

A few months back I had a check for one of my clients (around $24k) sent from Southern California and DHL lost it for 4 days, when it was supposed to be overnighted.
I have an account with UPS which has handled a couple thousand packages this year and they've done a damn good job so far.

Oh, I wish you good luck, happened to me several times… from getting a 17" PB misrouted to a missed and then seriously damaged SGI workstation… and I can tell you that you have to be really 'incompetente' (that is spanish for incompetent) to damage such huge iron machine.

Thanks, I'd be way more upset if I was waiting on expensive items such as a computer or something like that, but these packages are just small items, like a wireless router, some ethernet cables, some smokes, and a few accessories.

I'm not sure, you'd have to ask Tetenal if he'd grant you membership. Of course I believe in proper spelling also, but we all make minor mistakes from time to time. I will be watching his posts very carefully, and I'll be mighty quick to point out the most trivial and insignificant mistakes if I see any.

It's a personal thing. You see, there's a few people on this forum that don't like me for expressing my political opinions in the political lounge, so they constantly try to harrass me whenever I post in any of the other forums. They follow me around in the same way that flies are attracted to poo.
