Emo's are kinda like a non-painted up version of the goth kids from South Park, and their music from which they draw their "Life sucks I lose everything I love and never get it back so I'm gonna wear a hoodie that says Death Cab For Cutie and stick the back of my hair up and pull the front down and hairgel it to my cheeks and put safety pins in my tight girls pants to demonstrate how bad things are while listening to a band that sounds like guys reciting late 90's girl pop over guitars" attitude is a disgrace to the wonderful art of music.

Death Cab For Cutie are an incredible band, and not emo. Their lyrics are extremely clever, and never touch upon the "Life sucks I lose everything I love and never get it back" attitude. They are very positive and uplifting generally, with many songs full of hope, although they do touch upon serious subjects such as the death of close loved ones etc, which I would hardly call as grounds for criticism.
and also:
http://www.fourfa.com/
This is a good site that explains one point of view of what emo is and its history. It puts an end to many common misconceptions, although bare in mind much of it is tongue in cheek.

Death Cab is obviously one of your favorite bands, and I will say right now that I am not making fun of them. I only mention them because the emo's I see around here often wear Death Cab clothing. Their music is most definintly not of my tastes, but I have never heard more than three of their songs, therefore I am not in a position to bash them.

Sounds like if I had one of their CDs on my shelf, my Manowar collection would call it a "pussy" until it committed suicide.

Case in point: "Emo guy"
Most "hardcore" emo kids wouldn't give Death Cab for Cutie the time of day, because it's not "hard" enough for them - since most consider them "indie pop." Personally, I've been a fan of theirs since 2000 (right after We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes was released), and I think Ben Gibbard's lyrics and the overall quality of the band has gradually increased over time. Ben has amazing song-writing abilties and every song has wonderful imagery.
People have asked me in the past if I am/was "Emo," simply because I wear black-framed glasses. Whatever.

Emo = "emotional." Picture a "dramatic" teenage girl. Now multiply by a few orders of magnitude. Everything is either awful in the most horrendous extreme, or (rarely) orgasmically wonderful. It's pretty tiring just to watch kids who affect this "lifestyle." I can't imagine doing it myself.

Speaking of teenage girls... The emo guys like wearing really tight girls jeans and I can't imagine the type of strain this puts on your package, especially when you sit down.
Emo guy one: Nice pants.
Emo guy two: Thanks, life sucks. It was hard getting them on.
Emo guy one: Yeah, my life sucks cause my pants aren't tight enough to achieve the camel toe you have going on.
Emo guys one and two: I wanna die.

the term "emo" has its roots in whats described on the fourfa site. a subgenre of hardcore called "emotional hardcore" that came out of DC in the 80s. at this point, one really has nothing to do with the other, imo.

I'd partially attribute it to the Internet's better ability to spread fads for the emo generation than for the previous goth.

The wiki uses Dashboard as an example in tastes of music.
I also find it hard to imagine why kids of such wealth to tun Emo when they not a care in the world and seem to derive pleasure from having "issue".
I'm so confused between "scene" and "emo" kids.

I also heard rumours of a live/touring DVD, which may or may not be forthcoming. They're a mysterious bunch. But oh, so freakin good! I haven't had many satisfying moments like the first time I pressed play on Panopticon....

It's extremely difficult to fit into every day life if you're wealthier, better looking or more intelligent than the norm. This is mainly due to others' inferiority complexes. Thus, some folks "dumb down" in order to have a social life.
A least that's how it is here.

Really? That's pretty sad.
In my school (I really cant observe people beyond that) the wealther, better looking, and intelligent people just group up with other people who have similar interests, or who they get along with. In many cases, these groups are not defined by wealth, looks, or brains... although--I do see some stratification as far as brains. But no one's like "oh I'm not gonna be your friend because you dont have above a 3.9 GPA..." or any crap like that.
But once again, my experience is a very limited scope... and since its a private HS, its probably less harsh than what a lot of other people experience.
Anyway, I digress.
Regarding emos--I have no respect for them. Sh*t happens--that's life. Get used to it. Feeling sorry for yourself aint gonna do anything to improve your situation. Sure, if I've got a friend who needs a shoulder to cry on, I'm there. But enough is enough. And emo is beyond enough. Not to mention that the music totally sucks. But with regards to the music specifically, I have a handful of friends who listen to it, but arent all emo and crap. They just (for some reason unfathomable to me) like the music. ...whatever.
In any case, we needn't worry about emo... becase,
EMO SUCKS.

apparently it's very important to show that you dont care what other people think about how you look....um, by looking exactly like all the other kids.
that aside, emo girls are easy. so it at least has a few redeeming qualities. Its like goth without the fat.
Myspace definitely helped it along tho.
