I'll eat the placenta, says Cruise

I'll eat the placenta, says Cruise
Tuesday April 18, 09:19 AM

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is planning to eat his new baby's placenta.

It is the latest in a series of unusual revelations by the 43-year-old Mission Impossible star about the child he is expecting with fiancee Katie Holmes.

He told GQ magazine: "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I'm gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there."

Cruise has also claimed he knew actress Holmes, 27, was pregnant, even before she told him.

A follower of Scientology, he has defended the religion's belief that women should give birth in silence.

"It's really about respecting the woman.

"It's not about her not screaming," he has told GQ.

Cruise recently also said he believes he can cure drug addicts.

The actor plans to marry Holmes in the summer.

He said earlier this month that their baby was due "any day now".

The Web is buzzing with the shocking “news” that Tom Cruise plans to eat the placenta after his girlfriend Katie Holmes gives birth.

Cruise’s comment – a joke he made during an interview with GQ – is being taken out of context and reported as legitimate news. Some sites are going so far as to quote medical experts on the topic of placenta-eating.

Cruise, 43, told GQ: "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I'm gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there." When it was pointed out that it would be a big meal, Cruise replied: "OK, maybe I won't."

Why is that? Is it some sort of "special" blood unique to babies like stem cells are special and unique to babies?

So what if he eats it and it's like the tastiest thing he's ever had? Is he gonna turn Kattie in to a Scientologist puppy-mill to keep his belly full?

Personally, I think he was being a smarty-pants, but I still find him terribly annoying.

Yeah, many have said he now occupies the space MJ did. Or at least he's contending for the same position - perhaps Jacko will feel compelled to one-up him in the near future. I also did not know Scientologists had any affinity for Hebrew names.

Now it's inevitable that this story will become the b-plot of a South Park episode to debut a few weeks from now, unless Comedy Central puts the muzzle on Matt and Trey.

If Matt and Trey churn out anything like what has been on the air so far this season of South Park, Cruise would have NOTHING to worry about. Satire doesn't work if it's not funny. This season of SP hasn't been funny.

In every joke is a tiny bit of truth...

Never forget that.

So, although he may have been joking, he DID think of it.
