My drive shaft on my 1992 Ford F-150 just fell out and I need to find some parts to fix it. I don't know what the 3 parts are called that I need, so I drew a picture below. Anyone know what part 1, 2, and 3 is called? Part 3 has 4 bolts that connects itself to the rear differential. All 3 parts connect to each other as a type of joint.
Thanks for any help!

Part number two, which is likely what has failed, is called a "Rear Universal joint". Ask for that at the parts store. Make sure the attaching points on the axle and drive shaft are not damaged and you should be able to fix it no problem.
Got any real pics of the parts?

he's got it right...
it's a universal joint (u-joint) they will go bad after time, I would suggest you replace them all in the rear drive shaft, if one is bad then they are both probably bad... it is important to make sure that the "ears" on the yolk are still intact, if they are broken and missing they will not hold the joint in place and it will just come apart again.
if you find your driveshaft to be damaged and in need of repair take it to a driveshaft shop, they should be able to do the work for relatively cheap and quick ($100 is usually the amount things are)
here are some sites I found on google that tell how to replace a u-joint, I have replaced a few myself, it's not all that hard if you have the tools and some mechanical know how. be careful of the needle bearings, they like to fall out on ya!

U-Joints usually fail when you are over 50 miles from home and it is either pouring rain and you are on a dirt road, or it has just snowed 12 inches and the plows haven't gone though yet.
