Okay, here's a scenario and I want to hear what some of you would do in this situation.
You live in a nice house in the suburbs.
You rehabilitate wild animals for the Department of Wildlife and Fish and you also keep fancy chickens in the back yard.
You are a nice person and well meaning.
However, the neighbor behind you has cats. In fact, many people in the neighborhood have cats and over the past few years you have had cats in your back yard on numerous occasions. On a couple of occasions you actually caught cats killing your fancy fowl. When you have actually captured a couple of the cats you looked for a tag on the cats and there wasn't any identifying information, including no microchip (which you discovered when you took the cat to the local animal shelter). You have taken some cats to the local animal shelter and dropped them off as is due procedure in most places.
Recently you noticed one cat in particular stalking your fowl and you tried to scare the cat away, but it continues to come into your yard and harass your fowl.
What do you do?

I think anybody that actually cares for their cat will keep it inside or at the very least have proper identification on it. I wouldn't feel bad at all capturing cats that come into my backyard and either keeping them and posting found signs and/or taking them to the humane society.

I think anyone who really cares for animals wouldn't be keeping any "fancy fowl" prisoner. Animals are not possessions to be collected like knick-knacks.
Get rid of the prisoners, problem goes away.

Then you could say that dogs and cats are "prisoners" also.
Wrong answer - start a new thread on what constitutes a "prisoner" okay?

Housecats don't tend to kill fowl. It's way too much effort for them.
All five of my cats are free roamers and don't in the slightest bother my resident wild ducks or wild partridges.

I addressed the problem. Not only that my solution is the most humane so far…in fact he ONLY humane one. Killing animals that are free in order to protect animals that are being held captive is just…ridiculous IMO.
Just because YOU didn't like my solution doesn't mean it doesn't belong in this thread. Of course it is YOUR thread so if you wish to silence the only voice of true humaneness then I will comply this time.
Good luck murdering or kidnapping innocent cats that are only following their instincts.

Cats will kill anything that they are able to. I've had free-roaming cats that killed rabbits.
Taking out some inbred chickens in a yard is a FAR cry from wild ducks and partridges.

scare them off with an air gun, once they feel the sting a few times they won't come back. make sure its not too high velocity, I just got one that shoots 6mm plastic bbs no need for something that shoots 4.5mm metal bbs the plastic ones do just fine.

Why don't you just erect some kind of fence or cage that the cats will have extreme trouble getting into/over? I'm sure you could ask the local animal shelters or home hardware stores for something that would work.

Why is ANOTHER PERSON'S CAT out roaming around in MY yard?

Because it's a cat. That's what cats do.
Why have YOU built your yard on THE CAT'S TERRITORY?

I could come hang out at your house for a while. Trust me, those cats will get the message with a quickness (and walk funny too).

Thanks, pooka.
Yes, I'll tell you what: If someone else's cat comes traipsing through my yard I am going to catch it and bring it down to the animal shelter.
Is that unfair?

Put up a no trespassing sign. And dogs. Lots of large attack dogs.
Edit: A cat just walked into my room. Oh no! But if I leave it alone, it'll go back to its home.
Edit2: Help, the cat is on my bed! And it is touching my laptop. Help me! Come trap it!

Yes, that's unfair.
Will "your" neighbour follow suit and take your kids down to the child services offices if they dare stray into his yard to, say, get their ball back?

How can you compare kids to cats?
I'm not talking about an occasional situation where the cat walks through my yard. I'm talking about a cat that craps in my yard, kills chickens and birds - leaving dead animals all over - and there is no proof that it is vaccinated or belongs to anyone.

My mom and I were on our way home one night when we see a small child in the middle of the street in our neighborhood. I go out to try and find where he belongs. The kid growls at me. I manage to catch him. I look around, and find a house with a front door sitting open. I go there, ring the bell. Nothing happens. I knock. I stick my head in and yell. Finally someone comes to the door, takes the kid, doesn't say much of anything, and closes the door. The kid belonged to this guy. It would have been so nice to have turned the kid over to CPS. But hey, I let cats traverse our back yard, too!

Well god damn, you're setting out bait for them, what do you expect? You're lucky you don't have Colonel Sanders traipsing through your yard.

Let me tell y'all a little story.
About a year and a half ago a cat came into my porch - without my permission - and when I tried to shoo it away because it was hissing at my 1 year old baby and would not back away (it's a tiled foyer area) I waved my hands at it and guess what? It bit me.
I had to have 24 rabies shots.
Think that's fun?
How would you like to get 24 rabies shots, Doofy?
Be honest.

What if it was a dog that kept coming into your yard and killing animals?

A bout a year and a half ago a Mormon came into my porch - without my permission - and when I tried to shoo it away because it was preaching at my 1 year old baby and would not shut up, I waved my hands at it and guess what? It anointed me.
I had to have 24 caffeine shots.

Too bad the rabies vaccine is only 5 shots after an exposure…either you are making sh*t up using a 20 year old idea of a rabies vaccine or you need a new doctor.

Hmmm... So you can't even get a cat out of your porch without getting bitten yet you're going to attempt to catch one? Best of luck with that.
What is sounds like you need to do, Cody, is get a cat. That way there'll be no problems with other cats and you might learn how to handle them without getting bitten.
And I'm going to question your recollection of that event. I've never, ever known a cat which will bite as a first defence. Scratching comes first. At least that's what they teach them in the feline dojos around here - ranged attack first, biting as a very last resort.

Sounds like fun, something interesting to do on a weekend.
Mind you, I have an extremely high pain threshold. When I cut my heel off during a biking accident my response was "oh poop, I appear to have cut my heel off", not "arrrrgh!".

I'm not making "sh*t" up.
I had to go in every three days and get a shot in each arm and in each thigh. Six times. That's 24 shots.

No I'm not. I'm simply not agreeing with you.
I have cats. I have wild fowl who've taken up residence on my lawn. I have resident foxes. I have horses and cows. I have a family of squirrels. I have hedgehogs. And frogs. Next door has chickens.
So I tend to be quite exposed to inter-species warfare. Taking the intruding cats down to the cats home is a stupid thing to be doing. Cats will be cats. They'll do what they do. And to some people, they're their family.
An easy way to get rid of next door's intruding cats is to spit at them. Not spit as in "watery substance from mouth", but "sound like white noise from behind teeth". They understand that language. Do that a few times and they won't be back.

This is the correct answer. Cats can't stand the smell of lemon.
And for crying out loud Cody, how many times do we need to have this conversation? We know you don't like free roaming cats, you've made your points in numerous threads already.

Oh well. If I could at least get her to stop molesting my laptop...
Lemon juice failed, she just stuck as far away as possible and still came in.
I think I've terrified her enough for one night, and I don't feel like getting bitten.
