http://www.pixelpress.org/chernobyl/index.html

Chilling photographic essay with some disturbing pictures of those affected still, so many years later. Thought I'd share.

EDIT: "Disturbing pictures" means disturbing pictures. Don't click through if you don't want to see people whose development has been abnormal because of the meltdown.

Last I read the animals are actually doing much better than expected and seem to have adapted. If you still live there you are a moron.

That thread was already resuscitated and discredited a few days ago. Hopefully its presence won't further invade here.

Edit: Oh, she went on a tourist tour instead of a motorcycle trip. Still nice photos there though.

"Research shows that the genetic material recovers after 200 generations." Animals tend to have a shorter generation span than humans.

Moving is not always an option if you are poor and have your whole life there. If you are not informed by your government of the actual dangers then you are even worse off.

Fascinating how photography can be both beautiful and disturbing at the same time.

That stuff is pretty crazy.

I think I know about the "fake motorcycle trip" site you're talking about…are the pictures real, however? I remember some of them being pretty moving.

The pictures were real. They story, apparantly, was not. It's hard to fake a nuclear disaster.

You guys should read the article in the National Geographic, it is very interesting. In the article they were mentioning an older couple that went back because they preferred to die at home than anywhere else. And because of the level of radiation they suffered they were going to die.

real in the sense that they werent Photoshopped, but a lot of them were setups, posed, etc. A lot of the info was incorrect also, and I cant remember what we decided about whether "she" was a "he" or just Michael Jackson for that matter.

there was a good interview somewhere with the guide that took "it" out on the tour.

I don't fully understand why the rest of the reactor was kept open for so long. what protected the workers? Certainly after 1990 (or earlier) everyone was aware of the danger. Did these folks have to wear space-suits into the exclusion zones?

People who've grown abnormally or developed various diseases. You can probably see more disgusting things in Hollywood makeup, but the fact that these people and their plights are real makes things slightly more horrifying.

what was just as eerie in its way as the babies with hydrocephalus, was the picture of the kid jumping in the river, the river that the caption says is contaminated, yet people still fish, drink, swim in it.
