You know what I mean. It's much simpler to say 40 rib-60 chest than 4DD. Why do some continue using those meaningless letter combinations? Just tell me how many inches there are!

Isn't that how they still sell bras? I am well aquainted with 38DD and it would be like losing an old friend to not be able to say that again.

So Dave Lee Roth can write songs about them.

Seriously. I like a C. Now, that can be a 32C or a 34C or a 36C. It's all a C - I know I'll be getting the correct proportions. Why change what works?

And that's the way they're sized... It's NOT for guys, by the way, the cup size affects how the bra fits the breast. The cup must be shaped differently, and provide different volumes for different breast sizes.

40 (i'm assuming that's a 40) double-d. would be a 40 inch ribcage and a 45 inch bust. one inch of difference in circumference between rib cage and bust is a cupsize.

Mmmmmhmmmm, yes, spot on. 32C has become all too familiar to me lately, and I'm lovin' it like a mofo.

I thought all women's clothes were measured some meaningless way... Like "she's a size 2 or a size 6." Two what? Six what? Inches? Cubic feet? PSI?

You know, that's been bugging me lately. I just had this course where the prof only gives you a letter grade. You NEVER know where you stand! So I got an "A" on the midterm, term paper outline, and term paper – totaling 65% of my overall grade. However, the 35% final was my last final yesterday, and I wasn't really in the mood to study for it and ended up watching a movie, sleeping, and posting on here instead.

So. I studied the morning of, and I'm burnt out from finals as it is, so obviously my mark is gonna slip. Let's say I totally eff it up, and get a B+. Where does that leave me!?! I mean, 65% is an A, and 35% is a B+! Is that an A-?? Or do I still stay in A territory?! I need hard numbers here, so I can say "I ended up with a 90.5%, so I get to keep my A."

Yeah.

The difference between women's sizes in the UK and US bugs me. I know what a size 6 or 8 looks like in the UK, but apparently these translate to smaller sizes in the US. Courteney Cox during Friends (i.e. before baby), for example, would be a UK 6.

PSI would apply to many breasts now...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Do you mean translates to larger sizes?

I mean, Courtney's a freakin' small little girl, I must say. I imagine she can't be more than a 2 here in North America? A size 6 here in Canada is definitely a well-rounded girl.

Hmmm... Communication problem here, easily done.

UK size 6 translates to a US size 2 (?), which is a smaller number - that's how I meant it.

That's what I'm talking about (Willis), yep.
Angelina Jolie (before she went all weird with little stick arms) would probably be an 8 going on 10 here. In the film "Gia", definitely a 10.

Dress sizes are two things: completely unstandardized, even within a single manufacturer's or pattern maker's lines, and tweaked for the egos of the ladies they're trying to get to buy the clothes.

A friend of mine is a very talented seamstress; when she makes something, she's followed the pattern exactly and done everthing right. She once bought three patterns from the same manufacturer and made the dresses they were for. Using the manufacturer's guidelines for HER CURRENT MEASUREMENTS, she wound up with dresses that were three different sizes-and NOT at all proportional. One was too big in the bust, one too big in the waist, and the third too small in the hips. It's goofy. When my wife goes clothes shopping, she starts in the sizes she expects she'll fall in, and then sees what actually fits. Sometimes she'll be two full size ranges off from what she expected to be.

I've just tried finding a definitive "size chart" for ladies' dress sizes. I couldn't find one. As far as I can tell, it's a very vague issue anyway. On top of that, there are different ranges of sizes: Misses, Ladies, Womens, "Half Sizes" and so on. It just boggles the mind.

I did find this cool little site that purports to convert between various countries' size standards (and I use that term very loosely). It is cool, no doubt about it, but it doesn't say what female measurements correspond to the sizes in question. What good is that?

Cause then the nickname "DoubleD" would have no meaning for a girl.
