If on the other hand you refer to the trains/planes/automobiles... that's all me!

I fly it on contract basis, but I sure wish I had an $18M plane, but then I'd prolly not have the kind of life that lets me post idle chatter on the internet, and I'd rather have that than the millions!

It actually, technically really is, when it's electrified, as when Fender first made electric bass.. they called it "electric bass guitar" themselves.. I was just giving you a hard time of course... it's one of those bass playerisms that we hate it when people say stuff like..

"wow, you play the guitar?"
or
"why do you play the bass, nobody hears the bass?"
or
"oh, the bass must be easier to play than the guitar, since it has fewer strings"

you get my gist.. etc..

Congratulations on your two new "tools of ignorance".

Although you have now been officially added to my "evil people who play evil rosewood fingerboards and don't know how evil they are" list. I keep it on my fridge and shout at it occasionally.

LOL!

I struggled with the rosewood vs. maple on the 4 string as I do light a bright sound.. but with the 3-band eq and the bright pickups on these, I didn't need the "Extra" brightness of the maple neck.. and the 5-string only comes with Pao Ferro neck, which is about as bright as the maple, but looks more like a rosewood..

They really sound great though.. I can't decide which one to play more! and my poor Roscoe Beck IV Jazz is feeling neglected!

I think it's a shame that people are able to say this. There's a lot of popular music in which the average listener just doesn't hear it, either due to lower volume or the way the music is composed. It's not uncommon to have a bass line that just hides behind a louder instrument providing a thick harmony, such as a rhythm guitar playing chords. At least giving the bass a different rhythm provides some interest. It's nice to hear the bass used as a separate instrument, and not just to provide a reinforcement of notes already being played.

the best way to show people the importance of bass in music, is to get the original multi track version of the song, and subtract the bass line... then you'll see their jaw drop at the sudden absence of the backbone of the song.

Bands like Duran Duran, Supertramp, and Genesis would almost cease to exist were it not for bass.

Cool.

Nice collection, especially the Roscoe.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist. I'm primarily a guitarist but just took delivery of
this bad boy:

http://pod.ath.cx/bass.jpg

6-strings, active electronics, no waiting. It's already on a track over
(20 minutes out of the box even) at my myspace site, "Transition III"
is the name of the tune http://www.myspace.com/aliensporebomb is
the site.

I've used a friend of mine's Carvin 6-string bass on and off for demos and
simply needed my own - synth bass only goes so far.

I prefer ebony fingerboards over rosewood myself even though two of my
guitars have rosewood fingerboards.

The acoustic:
http://pod.ath.cx/fusion.jpg

The electrics:

I built some photo vanity sites for these instruments:

One with gorgeous wood:
http://pod.ath.cx/guitars/ex2forensi...sicnormal.html

One that's more like a hot rod:
http://pod.ath.cx/guitars/soloist/soloist.html

I've got another acoustic classical but I don't really have a picture of it anywhere.

Yep, bass is important. I also use a lot of synthesizers.

Todd, VERY nice music, and nice axes! I especially love the brown flame guitar!

If I had to pigeon hole you, I'd say you're more of a Pat Matheny style.. I love that style myself.

Great work man!

UnixMac - thanks! (Everybody loves that guitar, there's a line 20 deep of people who
want to buy that thing but I've had it 16 years and don't plan on selling anytime soon).

Pat Metheny? Heh. I like his playing but I don't think I sound anything like him.

Or, if you're an old fart like me, someone might ask you to play Got The Time, by Joe Jackson.

I used to play that finger-style. Imagine my surprise when I finally got to see Joe Jackson, & Graham Maby was playing with a pick.

I've posted this before, but it's been a while:

Los Tres Fenders:
