How much does it cost you to fly between 2 main cities in the U.S.; from the Mountain area to East like New York city; or between Paris and London.

Here in Canada, it is going to cost me $754. from Calgary to Montreal or $990 from Calgary to Quebec city. Quebec city is 40 minutes by plane or about 21/2 hours by road.

When I went to Paris last year it cost me $640. return.

It is shameful what they charged us nowadays.

I'm flying to Cupertino on Friday (coming into San Jose), it's costing me around $260, (mostly because I bought the tickets last week, stupid me). Portland, which is two hours away from Seattle, and much closer than Cupertino, is $360.

I'd like to see the bidding war between those to keep her there and those to get rid of her. I think the American Capitalist pigs would win though (I hope!).

Not to mention all those wonderful new security taxes because of the homeland security issues in the US.

Lets face it, unless this flight was free Monique would still like to point out how something is more sucky in Canada in her opinion.

I booked SBA-BOS (via LAS) for $260 one-way... of course, two days later it dropped to $220.

The higher fares in Canada are due to a lack of competition. Calgary - Montreal only has two airlines (Air Canada and WestJet) while Calgary - Quebec city only has one airline (Air Canada). For cities that size in the US you'd see at least a half dozen carriers on those routes, pushing prices down.

If you think the airlines are being greedy, their cost or Calgary - Montreal is about 0.10-0.20CDN per mile (for the route actually flown, not a straight line) and 0.15-0.30CDN per mile for Calgary - Quebec city.

Calgary to Montreal hardly compares to NY vs London.

If anything the closest comparison is Vancouver to Toronto but even that is pushing it.

$274 return Toronto to St John's recently.

As with any deregulated air travel environment, pricing depends on many variances that begin with supply/demand for a specific route at a specific time - even though these figures are often provided from pricing algorithms months in advance.

That said; airline prices worldwide (well ... perhaps not Venezuela) are rising in lockstep with increasing fuel prices.

Prices will fluctuate a great deal between carriers and time-of-year. That $990 CDN price tag probably may have been lower with a little more planning, research and luck.

To that end; here are a few resources to aid in finding your way cost-effectively around the friendly Canadian skies:

travelocity.ca
ticketpilot.ca
expedia.ca

edit: After checking for deals on the Calgary - Quebec City route through one of the aforelinked sites, I can only offer Monique my sympathy. As another poster noted, Air Canada is the sole carrier serving that route, for which her $990 looks to be typical. One can assume there's not much in terms of demand volume for that route.

Ryan Air, baby. 20 Euro. 'nuff said.

Which begs to ask, how in hell is Southwest and other airlines going bankrupt when they charge nearly $400 to go from SFO to DIA? A similar trip that'd cost you maybe 30 Euro on Ryan.

SFO (San Francisco) to CLE (Cleveland) cost me nearly $400 two years ago. Looks to be about the same today. That's about, what, 2500 miles?

depends on which company you are flying and how popular the route is. If you end up on one of the smaller planes it costs more then one of the large planes. For me, if I was to fly to Toronto I would drive to Seattle and catch a flight from there. My buddy coming to Canada for the first time is flying Air Canada because its cheaper then one of the European companies, yet if I was to fly to Europe it would cost me more to fly Air Canada then one of the European companies. Its pretty stupid.
