Looks cool....apart from the lame semi-naked shot of him wading through water.

The movie itself has been getting a TON of bad press from day one and rightly so.
He is also the ugliest bond ever.

Nah, I kinda have faith in this incarnation of Bond, he's supposed to be more vicious and cold bloded. Plus, Daniel Craig did kick ass in Layer Cake.
Guess time will tell.

So you still like him knowing he got his teeth knocked out on the first action shoot?
Or that bond will no longer have gadgets and drive a ford?

I don't have a problem with it.
You see, in all the Bond movies Q tells Bond that -for no particular reason- they aded some very strange gadget to his car or to his pen, etc. And every time a very far fetched situation arises that can only be escaped using the strange gadget. IMHO, that got old.
As for the ford, that sucks, but then again, he didn't write the script.

I don't understand the logic behind this argument. He got his teeth kicked in because he was actually doing something instead of being a pussy like Roger Moore. Oooooh, an actor got his teeth kicked in. I'd like to see you do the same scene. You'd probably get knocked the f#$@ out.
Frankly, I can't wait for the new incarnation. Connery was the best Bond because he didn't need all the bs. Sure he had fancy equipment, but it wasn't used that much. Nowhere near as much as all the crap in the Moore era. Connery was the best Bond because he oozed badass: smart, tough, and very resourceful.

I think what it boils down to is this: those of us who saw Layer Cake back when it came out have a favorable impression of Craig. Those who had never heard of him until he was picked as Bond are skeptical, and naturally so.
I quite like Craig. And let's face it, the last few Bond movies were so predictable and tedious that something had to change.

Or how about he wasn't following direction and put his face in a fist. Great actor for an action movie.

He's driving an Aston again, it's based on an actual Fleming novel, and Brosnan is not in it.
I have a good amount of hope for this to help turn the franchise back around. Maybe this crew actually gets Bond.

James Bond is the coolest white man on the planet. And Daniel Craig is not Bond.

Just FYI, Sean Connery got his wrist broken by Steven Seagal ... yes, pony tail Steven Seagal, while practicing some martial arts move. Now how lame is that ?
Since he's considered the best Bond yet, I'd say enough to beat the crap out of your argument.
On a similar case. Matt Damon broke a rib while learning to play golf while filming The Legend Of Bagger Vance. No matter how lame that was, he still managed to kick plenty of ass in the Bourne movies.
Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy, "V" in V for Vendetta) broke his hip during the filming of one of the Matrix sequels. Guess he sucks too.

It's not lame at all. Steven Seagal is a very competent fighter.

You can't blame him for getting a tooth knocked out when he was punched in the face. Apparently he handled it very well anyway.
And as for him driving a Ford... an Aston Martin is as much a Ford as a Bentley is a VolksWagon. And Aston Martins are synonymous with Bond. I love the DB5 that I spotted in the trailer. One of the best British cars ever.

No, at one point in the film he drives an actual Ford... ...a Mondeo.
On other matters, I still want to know when M is going to have his penis sewn back on. Bond cannot possibly be Bond whilst taking orders from a chick.

Casino Royale: the best Bond ever
posted 11/18/06 (edited Saturday, Nov 18, 2006 18:00)
Let me officially and publicly swallow words of worry that I wrote based on what turns out to be highly inaccurate advance news reports about the "feminization" of James Bond in the new Casino Royale.
I saw it last night, on opening day, and I'm thrilled to report that there's nothing feminine about the new Bond, Daniel Craig.
Moreover -- mercifully -- there are no over-the-top Dr. Evil characters trying to take over the Known Universe; no over-the-top gadgets from Q; no over-the-top nuclear time bombs that Bond disarms just as they tick down to 007 seconds left till explosion. There are no lame, witless puns; no lame, time-wasting flirtations with Miss Moneypenny at MI6; no lame, vapid, "Bond girl" mannequins with IQs smaller than their breast measurements.
No, this is a total reinvention -- and total revival -- of the James Bond franchise, doing for 007 what "Batman Begins" recently did so brilliantly for that superhero. It's a hugely entertaining yet serious thriller that combines a tightly-written, suspenseful plot, fine acting from an excellent cast, credibly bloody-and-brutal fight sequences, jaw-dropping stunt work, breathtaking locations and sets...and, most importantly, the best James Bond since Sean Connery.
Okay. Yes. I know, I know. And I love what Sean Connery did for the character. Since the 1960s, his suave-yet-manly turn as Bond has been the gold standard against which all his successors in the role have been measured, and always fallen short.
Until now. Daniel Craig is simply the most physical, masculine, and credible Bond ever. He has dared to remake the character completely. No foppish Roger Moore, he: this is an intense, icy-cold, commando-tough, ruthlessly relentless agent and assassin. Craig's lean, wolfish face and chiseled body make him seem like a dangerous predator even in black tie, playing poker and sipping port. In fact, he looks like the valedictorian of a Navy SEAL class. And he acts the part: his fight scenes are more athletic and brutally realistic than anything ever seen in a Bond film, leaving him battered, bruised, and bleeding...but his adversaries dead. You find yourself thinking: Boy, I sure as hell wouldn't want to mess with this dude.
[...]
This is a serious action film -- intelligent and intense, while extravagantly entertaining. Even though it runs long (two hours, twenty-four minutes), it rivets you to your theater seat. And afterwards, shaken and stirred, you'll want to raise a dry martini to the new James Bond.

If you read the books by Ian Fleming you'll see that the original Bond character was a tough, mean sonofabitch, not a suave lounge lizard spending his time seducing bimbos. I am glad they are returning to that character.

Just come back from seeing this, and it has been a long time since I've enjoyed a bond film like this one. World is not enough was actually on tele when I came in, and it just seemed so childish and pathetic in comparison.
Craig is good as bond, certainly tough, but there are lighthearted moments too (but thankfully gone are all the sexual innuendoes). Also worth a big mention is Eva Green who plays the best bond girl in a very long time, she is certainly no bimbo.
I would recommend it to anyone. My girlfriend doesn't like violent films much, but she really enjoyed this - this is a bond film with real characters in it (and she thought Craig was very sexy too).
I'm sure some will want to hate this film and probably will. But if those are people who liked the way the last few Brosnan films were going, well then they are completely mad.

Really good movie. The action sequences were great!
SPOILER ALERT
The one thing I didn't really like, is that there was no real main plot. We never really know who the main bad guy is...is it all just about the money?

I got that feeling as well. There were references to this 'organisation' larger than the villain, so maybe they're setting up the next film.
Great movie though. Saw it last night and worth the money.

What really helped me to better understand the plot was to go to the CASINO ROYALE website
Sony Pictures - Casino Royale
Click on your nation's flag icon in the upper right hand corner.
Once the poker table is on screen click on "Dossier."
Then, at the bottom of the screen click on, "Mission."
Choose, "Assignment".
In addition to that helping to better understand the film plot the GUI is outstanding. The sounds and functions and graphics are the best I've ever seen on a website.
I spent almost an hour last nite exploring the whole thing.
Really cool.

I didn't like it and I am so disappointed by that
The first action bit had so much rope work in it I thought I was in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
After the first hour it got boring watching them play cards and bond constantly leaving to have heart attacks and kill people all to be back in time for the next round. The end was a bit anti-climactic also.
Damn.

I have to agree with Dark Helmet. Although I liked the first hour, up until the card game.
James Bond and snooty millionaires are playing Texas Hold'em? Come on! The card game went on too long and the end was anti-climactic. The falling building just didn't do it for me. Maybe because I was so bored of the card game and all the romance BS.
It just wasn't a Bond movie to me.
Although, Craig did a find job. I look forward to him in future movies - let's hope they have more action in the future.

I really enjoyed it as well. Just when you think the franchise was at risk of getting a little cliche, Casino proves you can be both a good movie and a good Bond movie.

Last nite on Ebert & Roeper (I used to think Roeper was a PC dweeb until I saw the guest host A.O. Scott [NYT Critic] ) they HIGHLY praised Daniel Craig saying he's the best actor to have played Bond.
