He's MIA and people are looking for him

Jack Miller is known and appreciated for his funny blog, As the Apple Turns. Sadly, it hasn't been updated in months.

MIA: Jack Miller from As the Apple Turns

I've been holding off on this one for awhile, but has anyone heard from Jack Miller at As the Apple Turns in awhile?

Jack's site was the first Mac blog that really turned me into a junkie. For a long time, he could be counted on to get up three posts a day, plus the world's funniest poll, Vote Early, Vote Often.

That streak was broken some years ago when Jack's daughter was born, but they'd been back to fairly regular posting until last summer, when they hit a hiatus again, resurfacing for a single post last Oct. 12. They haven't updated since.

A few blogs have put out the call asking for word that Jack's OK (it's been awhile, so I can't remember who all was asking after him two months ago; please write in the comments if you've helped ask after him).

I resisted doing likewise for some time because I didn't want Jack to be bothered unnecessarily. But he's always been quick to respond to e-mail before, even during the longer site lay-offs, and a message I left for him a few weeks ago at the number registered to the site has gone unanswered.

I think, sadly, AtAT is gone for good no matter what. Anyone know what Jack's up to?

Then I wonder why he's not responding to emails and phone calls.

Probably because he thinks they are annoying:

"Still ducking fans of my old web site, and this week things took a turn for the positively surreal: another web site actually posted an article on how I've been missing in action for five months and they put a call out for everyone to try to find out if I'm actually still alive or whatever. Which means that I've been deluged in email from people literally all over the world, and people have even called the house after pulling phone numbers from domain registration records. Thank heaven for caller ID; screen call, delete message, lather, rinse, repeat. I have a half-assed plan to write something explaining that I am, in fact, still alive (in some sense) and posting it over this weekend, but then again I've been planning to do that since last weekend and so far nothing, so who knows?"

well, it was originally designed in 1998, and then he kept it "retro." I was there when it happened! ah old times.

I haven't spoken to him personally about ATaT, but every once in a while everyone needs to do something new.

Now, has anyone heard from the Naked Mole Rat?

Yeah, he's still alive. No one really knows what he's up to, though.

I was still waiting for Mirsky of Mirsky's "Worst of the Web" to reappear but his
"comeback" page is just a placeholder.

Anyway, give the guy a break. He's a married father of a new kid. That alone
should give him some kind of special "don't bother this guy" dispensation.

Either that or he can auction the site to the highest bidder and have someone
take over.

I have enjoyed AtAT for years, and greatly appreciated his humor, talent and general all around good attitude. I voted in his polls, I tuned in Jeopardy when his wife was a contestant, and clicked on "Cute new Baby" picture link: three things I rarely do on the web.

And I also clicked through his advertisements just as a way to thank him. I only consciously do that for sites I love and visit almost every day.

Even though I don't feel he should feel obligated to keep us fans informed, I am quite surprised that he hasn't replaced the months old post with a "thanks for all the fish" post.

I miss AtAT too, Jack's writing was awesome and a great source for news on Apple.

AtAT was terrific. I just think Jack does not find as much drama for plotlines in the Apple scene now that the company is a media darling rather than that "beleagured" computer maker.
What happened to Steve's sanity? He took it out with the trash. . .
