I have the pleasure of working at UPS part time, i was getting mad bored at home and decided to do something in my spare time.

anyways... Yesterday we had corporate LP (loss prevention) in our hub and some people were saying that they were there because the company might loose contracts with cingular and apple. because of the amount of stolen cell phones and iPods.

I can totally see the cingular thing happen, i often find riped open boxes and the phone is missing from them. but i have yet to find a box with a missing ipod in it. also what does not make sense is... i thought Apple used Fed-Ex.

btw i work at the Ontario California hub.

Keep in mind that these are rumors i heard from regular workers and not management. The only thing i can verify is that corporate lp was there.

That would be "lose." And you don't know what the purpose of an apostrophe is. We are not surprised.

Every time I have used UPS the service was horrible. I am not surprised Apple wants to LOSE them.

I have heard of plenty of horror stories with them.

FedEx always delivers my Apple products.
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

Are you getting free shipping?

Edit: Nevermind, mine was just delivered by FedEx too. On a Sunday morning. And then they falsely listed it as a Saturday delivery on the website.

I don't understand why "lose" is so commonly misspelled "loose" when you have so many "oos" that model the correct pronunciation:

caboose
goose
loose
moose
noose

They are about to lose my contract also. They recently estimated weights on several packages I sent out at twice the weight. Also, I've been getting complaints from customers that recieve thier goods broken. I'm in talks right now with FedEx and DHL.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

I've had two packages delivered via UPS on two separate occasions in the last couple of months. Unfortunately, *both* were misrouted to the wrong hubs, so it took much longer to receive them than was expected. Not cool.

Please not that it is not "FedEx" that stol your iBook, nor "UPS" that's stealing phones. It's EMPLOYEES who are pilfering materials. And often they're the ones damaging the shipments too, probably as much from negligence as from malice. Neither of these situations are company policy, and both companies are very interested in fixing the problems.

By the way, Dakar, to get a UPS Saturday delivery costs a lot more than having the item delivered on a weekday, and most UPS customer related functions like deliveries aren't done on Sunday at all. Maybe your particular driver did you a favor by delivering the package on Sunday? Besides, the web site lists when the package was delivered according to the little gizmo the driver scans it with; its clock could have been off by a day. What's the fuss, anyway?

Well I don't think anyone was implying the Logo or CEO were personally stealing shipments. Of course it is the employees.

Problem is the companies poor security and insurance and support if something does go missing.

I have to agree about the insurance, particularly with UPS; they pay "the shipper" (if they pay at all), and the shipper is the actual originating agent. That means "The UPS Store" where you ship from may be the shipper.

Security of packages in transit is a serious concern, and both companies are addressing it. But it takes time to integrate a new system into an existing one without disrupting the flow of packages. I wish them luck.

I guess it would have been better for me to say "the actions of a few employees do not equate to the overall performance of the company," but that would have taken too long.

I've had very few problems with UPS or FedEx (knock on wood) getting packages and damages, but what I hate about them is their shipping price increse because of gasoline. Used to be able to get a package shipped for less than 4$ and now it's since doubled. I've switched to using Postal Priority Mail, still 4.80 for shipping, faster to get packages from one side of the us to the other where as UPS and FedEX takes 7 days, P. Mail takes 4 and almost half the price plus can get delivery on Saturday no extra charge.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the practice of goods being intercepted during shipping is called "leakage." Usually it is non-direct employees swiping a few units for personal use, or sometimes several hundred for sale on the black market.
I've heard this is getting more and more rare. What is a growing problem, however, is incompetence. Shipments that are mislabeled, mishandled or improperly entered into the system. Add to that the abuse some shipments get from overaggressive handlers and you see what companies that ship high volumes have to face. UPS ships more than anyone, so I suppose it’s expected that they would have more problems.
There was a UPS shipment center near my college and they were always recruiting for students to work there. The guys I know who did had great stories, but their advice was never ship anything important by UPS.

I'm not sure if I get your point right, because your examples would explain why many people write it "loose": it's pronounced as "loose", not as "lose", right? It doesn't sound like "nose"?

The verb "to lose" is pronounced with a "z" at the end while the verb "to loose" or the adjective "loose" is pronounced with an "s." Both have the long "oo" or "ew" sound.
