They should release them on Sunday, because its Monday in Australia thus i can sit at work all day looking at the pretty pictures when I have Monday-itis.

Then I don't have to wait till Wednesday to see all the new goodies.

For the same reason DVDs and CDs are released on Tuesdays.

As for DVDs and CDs, so that Monday all the retail places can get the material and get all set up for the release on Tuesday. Thats my best guess from working retail.

Does Apple release new products on Tuesdays or just announce them? I wasn't aware you could go down to an Apple retail store the same day a product was announced and buy one.

Why does iTunes release new music on Tuesdays?

I thought it had something to do with when weekly sales are totalled up, you know, for Top 40 charts and whatnot. That is, Billboard or SoundScan or whoever added up totals on a Monday. So if a new album came out on a Friday, it would have only 3-4 days of sales to be counted up for that particular week.

Not just Apple products or DVDs and CDs either. The game and comics industries also commonly release (or ship) on Tuesdays.

My theory is that it's a shipping issue. If stuff ships on Tuesday, most stores will have it by Thursday, so they can have it ready for the Friday-night and weekend rush.

The shipping hypothesis doesn't hold water for CDs/DVDs. Those are in stores on Tuesdays. I don't remember where I heard the charts reason (and, despite being right near the internet, am too lazy to google it), but I'm pretty sure it was a reputable source. Seems like it would make sense for other entertainment content that sees lots of releases. I can't see how it would apply to computers, though. I don't think there are groups that collect weekly sales figures, or if there are, I doubt computer makers give them much thought.

Hardly any Television Show competition on Tuesdays. No one really ever does anything on Tuesdays. Good day to get peoples attention with something that's otherwise not seen as very important.

From the people I know working in retail they all tell me it is because weekend shipping costs more so sending stuff out on a friday to get there on a sunday isn't worth it.

IMHO, it's because it's not Monday.

I think it has something to do with the fact that typically a lot of companies announce things on Tusedays.

Google Says:
DVDs and Music CDs released on Tuesdays for several reasons.

Sales Figures are released on Monday[1,2]

Consumers know when to look for new releases[3]

If a Tuesday release is selling well, there still is time to order more before the weekend.[3]

Shipments of music usually begin to arrive in stores on Thursday. That gives the stores time to coordinate special midnight sales on Monday evening, as opposed to Sunday, which is usually a shorter work day[3]

This practice appears to have been followed for 20 years[2,3]
