Very sad.
America should know the political orientation of government officials who might be in a position to adversely influence the future of this country. http://tinyurl.com/4vucu5

I'm not familiar with her, but it is always tragic when a young person dies.

Support the Komen Foundation and find a cure for this disease!

Death is not a tragedy, it is a part of life. Though I am sure she will be missed.

Breast cancer has a nearly identical death rate as prostate cancer, and SEVEN TIMES the research funding.

I think that is partly mens fault though. I mean how often do you hear men speak about prostate cancer awareness?

Not nearly as often as Breast Cancer. That's the point I think he was trying to make. If the disease is in the public eye, it gets the attention of the medical community. I don't think he was saying its any less important than any other disease.

Exactly. I almost NEVER hear anything about prostate cancer awareness if it doesn't come a government medical institution.

Men do not start awareness groups nor are they are vocal as breast cancer groups.

Well, that IS true. However, I just don't think that there is any sympathy for any disease that only effects men.

Men are more shy about it. If a male celebrity gets prostate cancer they are more secretive about it where woman are very vocal about breast cancer.

I don't know if I agree that people aren't as sympathetic to male only deceases. Aren't there more male doctors?

Considering my mother is a 13 year breast cancer survivor and my grandfather has prostate cancer, trust me, I want a cure for both of them.

Breasts, however, are much more a part of a woman's outward identity than a prostate is to a man. Go into any single jpeg orgy on this board and you'll know what I mean.

Women don't oggle men's prostates from the time a boy develops into puberty, after all.

Breasts, in our society, are a symbol of womanhood. And when a woman is struck with breast cancer, the chances that she will survive increase when she has those symbols removed from her body.

Sure, there are reconstructions and such, but she never feels quite as much a woman after that.

I don't say these things to minimize the impact of any other type of cancer. Heck, men get breast cancer, too.

Hoy que vengo a tus lares,
trayendo mis cantares
y con el alma enferma de tanto padecer;
quiero pueblito viejo,
morirme aquí en tu suelo,
bajo la luz del cielo que
un día me vio nacer.
