Hey everyone, I want to go to the opening of the Apple store on 5th Ave. in NY. I've never been to an Apple Store opening before. How early do you need to get there to be one of the first people in? and get a free T-shirt?

I'm excited by this store for different reasons. I've never been to an Apple store opening before so I don't know the answer to your question, but If it turns out to be a 24-7 store as rumored, the first 24 hour apple store in the world, then that would be damn cool. I guess the compusa nearby might as well clear out it's apple section, lol. It's about time that there's a 24 hour apple store, everything else can be gotten 24 hours, why not macs too ? I wonder what the cube will look like in person. I'm going to be in that area tommorow, but I think it's still covered up.

More importantly, the rumors say that the store opening will be used to introduce Macbooks and MAYBE even new iPods. Let's hope for instant availability at the store.

I heard that S jobs might show up. A friend of mine wants a 13' macbook, it would be cool if they got released on the 19th.

I don't know about NY. Here in Sacramento it was only a few hours you needed to show up. However, at the SF and NY flagship stores (and Tokyo), they had people waiting overnight to get in with lines of a few thousand people.

When I tried to go to the opening of the first Apple Store in Virginia, the line was about 3/4 of a mile long. It was absolutely nuts. There had to be 2,000 people there.
Then again, this was the first store, so I don't know.

Yeah, this is a store opening on a Friday evening in Midtown....it will be an absolute zoo. Keep in mind we're talking Manhattan here... since Trader Joe's opened in March, there have routinely been lines where the wait is 30+ minutes to get in...and we all know how fanatical Apple people are.
