The girl smokes 20 cigarettes a day despite being eight months' pregnant. She conceived aged 11 when she lost her virginity to a boy of 15 on a drunken night out with friends.
he 15-year-old has since been charged with rape by police, and is due to appear again at Edinburgh sheriff court on July 10.
She told the Sun: "I didn't think I'd get pregnant because it was my first time. But I'm really excited and looking forward to being a mum.
But this is the real shocker
"Her 34-year-old mother, who gave birth to her youngest child eight months ago, said she was 'proud' of her daughter.
Someone is a bad parent.

I was going to say that someone needs to retake sex ed, but then I realized she's probably not old enough to have taken it once...
I agree about the bad parenting...drunkness and chain smoking by the age of 11 aren't exactly the best qualities. She's probably in...what...fifth grade?

If the mum is 34 then she was 23 when she had this kid. And the daughter will have a sibling who is also an aunt to her own child? WTF is wrong with these people?
Although, I've got a woman at work who is 38 or 39 who is always talking about her "grand-baby". Which means her and her daughter both had children in their late teens.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

A couple of things:
1) All that chain smoking is going to make the kid retarded
2) I predict she will have two more before the end of high school

Aren't all siblings aunt's or uncle's to their brother/sisters kids?

I think what he was trying to say was the niece would be raised more like a sibling to her aunt.

To Britain's credit, they recently banned Snoop Dogg from the country after he and his posse started a fight in the Heathrow airport over not being admitted to the VIP lounge.

Doubtful. 1 pack a day is a light habit compared to a heavy smoker even then it takes years to cause cancer never-mind birth defects. She will have low birth weight at the most.
Physically there is nothing wrong with this, as the urges are there and the body is ready to go. Socially I think the mother should be locked up, or at least sterilized.

Another example of bad parenting. At 11 years old, a girl should not be out getting drunk and fornicating with young boys.
Oh, and this doesn't happen only in Europe.

The thing that scares me most about this is that my sister is 11 years younger than I am. This is like if my sister was my daughter.
I'm shocked. . . also at how the mom is proud!?

What was an 11 years old doing in a drunken party and should she be in bed by 9:00 pm? It is clear the mother of that child is totally lousy and it will continue from generation to generation.
Probably the mother is proud because that young girl did not have an abortion and giving birth will be extremly detrimental to her health both physical and mental. An 11 years old body is not made to have children.

I just thought now, that the mom is probably proud because she'll probably "kill two birds with one stone" and become Britain's youngest mother, and Britain's youngest person on 'welfare'.

Here's one that I'm surprised no one has brought up:
The 15 yo male is being charged with rape. Doesn't sound like she was raped to me. I don't know the age of consent there, but I doubt it's 15.

Pregnant women who smoke have a greater risk of having babies with cleft lips or cleft palates.

"The girl, who has shoulder-length dark hair, began smoking at nine and started drinking tonic wine and vodka cocktails at ten. She claimed her cigarette habit was not harming the health of her unborn child.
She said: "I can give up smoking at any time, but I don't find it affects my pregnancy."
Wow.

It's not OK for just anybody under the age of consent to do anybody else under the age of consent. Given a certain age spread, most places would still consider it rape if both parties are below the age of consent.

As far as I know only the English law calls intercourse with a child (person under age of consent) "rape". I find that odd. The child was not raped, since it (most likely in this case) agreed to the intercourse. It was however (somewhat arguably) abused. And that's what the father would probably be charged with in Germany: sexual abuse of a child.

It's called statutory rape in America.

A class act. It makes us proud.
You'll notice she is actually Scottish. Now as a rule, the further up north you move in Great Britain, the less there is to do, hence kids have to find their own entertainment. Can't blame the lass really.

Dude I had grade 7 kids in my youth group in Canada which puts them at 13 going to bush parties getting hammered and having sex. Unfortunately this isn't as uncommon sounding as it seems. The fact is that today's average parent SUCKS, which pushes the bellow average ones even lower.

Such are the "pro-life"-people. They want you to carry out your child, but if you actually do (too early or too many) they call you a slut.
I think that is a sad generalization that many pro-life people would not agree with. Sadly, I tend to agree that generalizations are normally because they are true.
Yet, as a Christian, I would never call her a slut. I feel sorry for her a bit, becuase I'm not sure she has a good grasp of what she's going through and I wish she could have had more time free of responsiblity.
Pro-lifers aren't always as judgmental as some may think. Just as I don't think many pro-choicers are baby killers, as many on the other side think ;-).

You know... I'm pro life... and I'd rather she carry the baby to term. That said I'd rather she not be freaking retarded either. Sex at 11... is a sign of a lot of super deep problems.

IIRC, statuatory rape only applies when one is of consenting age and the other is not. Why isn't see being charged with rape? She could have seduced him.

According to the story of Adam and Eve. Eve was the one that got them booted from paradise. So from the roots, who is evil?

The legal age of consent for sex in the UK is 16.
If either party are under that age then it is classed as rape, whether or not they were consenting or not.
The girls mother is irresponsible for letting her 11 year old daughter get drunk at a party (more than likely at a friends house). That is bad parenting.
She says that she is proud of her daughter for keeping the baby rather than having an abortion, although some medical professionals would argue that it is irresponsible for a 12 year old to have a child, so an abortion would have been an option because of the risks to mother and child.
I used to know the youngest grand mother in the UK (29)!!

Actually the fact that she got pregnant in the first place technically shows that her body is biologically ready for it.
Puberty is hitting earlier and earlier these days for various reasons (actually it's hitting earlier in cities than out on the countryside - chew on that "white trash theorists"). Couple the biological facts with historical facts - people got married and had babies around 12-13 in the olden days - and you have some interesting stuff that does not jive with our current sociological view on when a person can and cannot have a baby.

Just because the body has gone through puberty doesn't mean it's ready for children in any way except for the fact that it can ovulate and lactate.
