I'm looking for a straightforward portable GPS unit for hiking, camping, bicycling, etc., but I have no clue what's both good and not terribly expensive today. I have one GPS device-a Garmin GPS-12, which is both old and heavy/bulky. I would still like to be able to connect my device to a computer to download waypoints, etc. Any suggestions under about $150?

I don't own either, but you might be interested in the Garmin Foretrex 101 ($130) or the Garmin Foretrex 201 ($170).

Well, not what you asked for...but

I got hand held units that do: GPS functions, weather and 2-way radio. Also good when hiking and camping. You do hike or camp with a buddy(s) right?

Of course, not in your price point, but handles both GPS needs and safety concerns.

My $0.02.
