On Monday Gates and Ballmer previewed Office 2007 and Vista, claiming it's right on scheduel for the early January target. The new preview was suppose to let people know that Vista is on track... they're staying the course.
So now the Beta was officially released and Ballmer said they may be looking at another delay.
I think a 2 day false predection is some kind of new record for Microsoft.

I thought up a new name for Ballmer: Magic 8 Ballmer
"All signs point to Vista being delayed."

I guess they might be able to release it in time for that all-important Easter Weekend computer-shopping season.

You guys remember how the Mac OS X Public Beta worked flawlessly? It was missing features, but was rock-solid stable, and installed without a hitch. Every time.

Dead serious. The OS X Public Beta was definitely lacking many features, but it was rock solid.

Public beta paniced a lot. I don't think it qualified as "rock solid".

Reporter: So, Steve, how goes Vista?
Ballmer: Woof! Woof! I'm a dog! Woof!
Reporter: Seriously, though: How's the progress?
Ballmer: Windows Vista is coming along just great. [Big wink] Just great.
Reporter: Why did you just wink at me?
Ballmer: Woof! I didn't wink! [Big wink]
Reporter: Stop winking! You're winking! Why are you winking?
Ballmer: Come on, man. Isn't it funny?
Reporter: What? Huh?
Ballmer: You don't get it?
Reporter: Get what?
Ballmer: It's a joke...
Reporter: What's a joke?
Ballmer: Vista! Get it? Get it?
Reporter: Get what?
Ballmer: I can't believe people have been buying this Vista garbage for so long! Bill and I have been laughing our asses off for the past year. We've had a hell of a time, my friend. A hell of a time. Corona?

I've rarely had KP problems with OS X, even in the early days. I consider 10.0 beta, even though it was not labeled as such. While a lot of features were missing and things were incredibly slow, I have never had installation issues or other issues in getting the OS to start up.
