People are more comfortable with:
- the death penalty
- divorce
- Buying and wearing clothing made of animal fur
- Medical research using stem cells obtained from human embryos
- Medical testing on animals
- Gambling
- Sex between an unmarried man and woman
- Having a baby outside of marriage
- Doctor-assisted suicide
Than they are with "homosexual relations". "homosexual marriage" would be less surprising, but gay people dating? How f-ing stupid is that?
Let's look at some of these other things they are okay with...
Having a baby outside of marriage, given the potential for this baby never knowing his/her parents, the potential for substantial parental trauma due to a breakup and/or the spouse being a jerk, financial trouble, etc. is better than gay people having an affair?
I don't mean to make sweeping generalizations or imply that there is something inherently wrong with having a baby outside of marriage, but just pointing out the potential for this sort of thing exists.
When is America going to finally progress enough to the point where we can begin to accept the mere existence of gays?

Huh. I have no problem with anything you listed except gay marriage. I think gay people are fine, and gays dating each other is cool. I don't think it should be called marriage, but there should be a union of people that can get all the benefits of marriage except child adoption. I'm just not sure that's a good idea. I think some gay people can make great parents, it's just the kid I'm worried about. I just haven't heard a good reason to go full out and allow child rearing. If you want a kid... then... well, it would make sense to be straight. >shrug<

Okay, let's leave marriage out of this.. I shouldn't have pressed that button because gay marriage was not a part of this poll at all.
As far as adoption (which also wasn't a part of this poll, but an interesting enough topic), how is it that some gay people would make good parents, but you'd be worried about the kid? You mean the kid being teased? Kids are teased about all sorts of stuff and parental "deficiencies": parents being too fat, too square, too poor, too drunk, too ugly, etc. whatever... kids will always find ways to be cruel to each other.

I wonder this all the time. Even Christians — I mean, if gays are misusing their reproductive faculties, it can't be any worse than straight people misuse them every freaking day on a much larger scale.
Oh, and In Before the Move To The PL.

That, and other htings. I'm just not sure having gay parents would be a good thing in the child's upbringing.

Oh, and In Before the Move To The PL.
This is a PL thread just because it is about our attitudes towards gays, or because this data happened to come from a poll?

I think there is already a grudging acceptance. Kinda like the way I'd imagine Southerners who'd grown up with a certain belief about the relationship between the races had to accept that blacks had the same rights as whites.
The Biblical prohibitions against homosexuality would have to be stricken for the kind of acceptance you are thinking of to take place.
But that means it would NEVER happen.
Because the minute someone tried changing the content of the Bible a modern day Christian schism would appear. One that could split the religion into violently opposed factions.
Just like in Islam, the only hope is in teaching. Emphasizing the loving aspects of the religion and giving little emphasis to the hateful aspects.
But as long as there is a Bible there will always be those who cite those verses and will believe in those commandments or prohibitions.

But you say that as if it was a BAD thing.
In a way, and SOMETIMES (though not all the time), arguing here in these threads is like having intercourse.
It's the most passionate exchange of emotions that is possible.
So, you could say Kevin is one of the most intimate and lusty people here!

Yeah, we're all allowed our own blog posts now and then, right?
You know another thing that is stupid... them welcome mats with a duck wearing a bow on them. If I saw a duck wearing a bow waiting for me in front of my door, I would not feel welcome! I'd call the cops, and make them escort the duck to a safe place, and then find out whether this bow that was put on the duck hurt it in any way. Ducks do not wear bows, which means that some young hoodlum probably thought it would be funny to put a bow on a duck. Who knows what else he might have done to the duck, maybe even wire it with explosives!
Welcome indeed!

Well, it grows tiresome having to constantly obtain a condom to wear around this guy so that I can protect myself from this intercourse (often unwanted). Besides, all of that passion with him can get rather messy.

If I were you I'd think about my choice of dress. Maybe stop wearing such provocative ideas?

It's not my fault that my ideas are sexy, he needs to learn restraint and keep his intercourse in his pants. I should be able to wear whatever I want!

Hahaha! In the short span of three weeks you've gone from not knowing who he is to believing me is he! Very nice.
And the Sinatra allusion is exactly what I was thinking when I wrote that.
See? Now, the way you picked up on that is like a form of slow, leisurely and fun intercourse. But it's not always like this. It shouldn't ever be only one way, one style, one pace, one theme.
Ahhh, if only you weren't a guy...

Definitions of Merka on the Web:
Merca (also Marka or Merka or Marca) is a port city in southern Somalia on the Indian Ocean. It is the main city in the Lower Shabele region. It is located approximately 70 km (45 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu. The town was established already in the 10th century by Arab or Persian merchants. The first Somalis arrived in the city in the 13th century and gained control of the city and the trade in the region till the 17th century.

I am talking about your quest to make the forum how you want it. Regardless that you have been asked to quit by not only forum members, but mods and admins as well.
You aggressively post what you want where you want it even when you know better.
Your rebel without a clue act. You put so much energy into this. Is it really that important?
How old are you again?

None of this is of any use.
So I'll dish out some good advice: Don't throw up after you've been eating tiramisu - it's the worst tasting vomit ever.

This thread needs a poll.
What team is your choice to win the AL Central in 2006?
1) Kansas City Royals
2) Not the Kansas City Royals
I pick #2.

To get back on topic, the reason the poll comes out the way it does is the way it's written and the way it's administered. You can (fairly easily) write a poll that would suggest people would be more in favor of Adolph Hitler leading ANY country over either Winston Churchil or Franklin Roosevelt. It's all in how the questions are worded and how they're presented-including the order they're presented in.
A "good" poll will provide ALL the data, including the exact questions and the way and order they were presented, along with the raw data on how many people chose which responses.
It may not have really been Mark Twain that said it, but it's still true: "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics." My stats prof started out with that and showed the class how easy it is to identify a BS poll just from how the respondents were chosen, without knowing anything about the questions. Unfortunately, it seems more important to have classes in high school on subjects other than being an informed consumer and citizen, so most people figure stats are too complex for anyone to understand.

Yeah, but even if each result had a 10% margin of error, I'd still say this poll illustrates how backwards our collective thinking is.
