I've been pretty happy with TextPattern for my site and for a couple others, in the past, but I'm wondering about some other CMSs for this upcoming project for an architecture firm.

Here's what they need from a CMS:

Obviously, they need to be able to change copy and such.

Projects will have a block of text, multiple photos and PDFs about them. (The multiple photos thing is a weakness of TXP)

My desires for the CMS:

Easy context ala TXP that allows me to slip things into my html. TXP is nice because of the fact that you can break tags down so far that you can keep it XHTML valid.

Easy for them to use to control content.

I'm considering Expression Engine - anyone had any experience with the full version of EE?

Anything else I should consider?

Mambo Server is pretty good, although it's kinda overkill in the complexity department. Joomla is an offshoot which works pretty well. I've used Integrix and CommonSpot before. Although those are expensive. I'm looking at CodyDynamic because it uses ASP & Access databases instead of PHP & MySQL as my current employer doesn't support either.

Expression Engine looks neat.

I've been working some with Drupal lately, and I've been more than satisfied with it.

It seems like Mambo and Drupal are the top two CMSs. I've used Mambo and highly recommend it.

I somehow got the impression that Drupal is a "work in progress" (am I remembering a v 0.8 ?) ... so what's the stability like?

The learning curve steep?

The backward compatibility when they upgrade it?

Care to share any guesses whey PHP/MySQL unpopular at your work? They're all that (cheapskate) I have bothered with (available on nearly EVERY commercial hosting service).

Wait a second, isn't Joomla the new Mambo? I think it is. There was this whole conflict between the developers of Mambo and the owners of Mambo; the developers left and started Joomla. Yeah, scratch Mambo server and go with Joomla.
