Rumors are circulating about Vista costing around $450, which may have had something to do with its stock price taking a hit today.

$450 actually doesn't seem out of the ballpark, since apparently quite a lot of work is going into Vista. But seriously, who would pay that much for an OS?

If true, that's going to make the current level of piracy of Windoze look tame by comparison. Maybe Apple will be able to swoop in with an unrestricted license PC version of Leopard and take advantage of M$'s folly.

So far, the marketing and version scheme for Vista sounds more complex than the product itself. It looks pretty complicated to me!

$342 USD ($450 AUD) for the Ultimate version overseas (probably $299 plus taxes) sounds about right... XP Pro was $299 when it was released, and Vista includes a lot more software than XP does.

Microsoft could charge $1,000 for Windows and people would still buy it; because they have to. The wonders of Vendor Lockin.

Oi... freaking vey. Makes sense though they make way more from people buying the box than a real computer. So this will probably just push people with great computers to buy the box, or people with craptacular ones to simply buy a new PC.

Not really. When the economy is up things usually get cheaper. Remember the free PC's of the dot com boom?

Unless that was sarcasm.
