sorta reading around, and was wondering with all the services out there like skype, vonage and now Asterisk, is it possible to call landlines in other countries for free now using one of these? If so, I will cancel my house phone and get on this VoIP bandwagon...

Skype is free until the end of the year...so maybe only temporarily cancel your landline...
Not sure if it's Universal yet, but I think that it probably is.

It is universal.
AFAIK the "free" is only in North America. Not even Canada to the US, just Canada to Canada and US to US.

F*ck the phone companies. I've been using Skypeout for almost a year.
