After all these years, I think the Jays finally have a chance to be serious contenders this year. They've won the past 8 or 9 series' (including against the Red Sox and White Sox). If they keep on winning 66% of their games, they ought to do just fine. Plus, they have the best offense in the AL so far.

What do you think of their chances this year?

i'm happy with them thus far, but they'll need to start sweeping series' rather than just winning them.

If you win 2 out of 3 games in a series for the entire year, by the end of the season you will accumulate 108 wins. Not too bad

It's too bad Rickey didn't make as big an impact on the Jays that people thought he would during the playoff stretch.

Are teams still allowed those last minute acquisitions to help them in the playoffs?

Don't forget that since all MLB players get paid in US dollars, the Blue Jays payroll is actually getting smaller as the US Dollar sinks vs. the Canadian Looney! Don't be suprised if they make a key trade or two with teams who are looking to trim payroll before the trade deadline....

I'm just concerned about their 'killer instinct'
they'll need it come playoff time.

I saw them play the Sox last week. Vernon got 3 jacks, Troy got 2 and it was a fantastic game. My GF's first baseball game ever and she had a blast.

Even if they don't win the east, at least they are competitive and put on a good show for their fans. The last 10 years hasn't been so fun.

Exactly... Besides, it's a long season... many things could happen. A key injury could happen to the Yankees or Red Sox, a losing streak, a winning streak, whatever... The Jays could grab a wildcard spot, and there have been teams that have won the World Series by winning the wild card spot, it seems to come down to how well they are playing at that time.

That simple possibility is partially what makes it exciting to watch them. It obviously wasn't even a possibility before when they were playing around .500 ball.

Yeah, but I think it's time to root for the underdog. We all know that Kansas City will be there in Sept.

The Jays are looking fine right now. Unfortunately, there's only one wild card spot, and the Yanks or the Sox will take it. And I don't mean the Red Sox.

Too bad my 'Stros are sucking it up.

Do you really think Detroit will stay in it?

What exactly has caused their team to go from nearly the worst team in the league to the best team?

Hey now, it could be worse! You can't really be sure the Marlins will be in Miami come September, now can you?

Honestly, though, I'm rooting for the Royals to improve this year. The '62 Mets still have the record for the worst baseball team ever fielded (40-120), and not even the 2003 Tigers (43-119) could catch them! We need to retain the record for futility!

I have no idea. They're hot right now, but as a recent Sports Illustrated article pointed out, they really haven't played the more difficult teams yet. We'll see, I guess.

Sure they have. They beat both the White Sox and the Red Sox. Can't remember how they did against the Yankees last. I think they have a series against Detroit coming up...

They've won the last 8 or 9 series, including against the Red Sox and White Sox. When are your scores from?

I was talking about Detroit.

We just both wasted a lot of time.

Doh!

So, you think that Detroit won't last, since they can't beat the good teams (unlike the Jays)?

Depends on if they let the losses to the big teams get in their heads and hurt their performance against average/worse opponents. But no one can predict this sort of thing. That's one reason I love sports.
