some car mods are so bad. you wonder why the owner gets them done in the first place. Like putting ear rings on a pig.
Some examples:
if you have any pix of sh!t cars, post em!

Its too bad I don't carry a camera frequently. Somewhere around here is a crotch rocket motorcycle completely covered in shag carpet. It is a sight to behold.

Oh... Nowt wrong with that Jeep mod either. Sure, it's got bits missing off it (i.e. door handles, mirrors, rear wiper), but there's nowt wrong with the mods.

Yeah, i saw one of those at a stunt show last year. I think the carpet was on there to protect the paint when he'd lay the bike down messing up a stunt.

Yep. But the wheels are confusing me some. They're not standard Cossie wheels by the looks of it - they look too cheap.

There's a Mercedes Benz coupé in Hamburg covered entirely in fake Jaguar fur.
Very, very nicely done, and looks totally rad.
Used to belong to a lawyer, IIRC, though I now see it driving around with a link to some restaurant lettered onto the rear screen.

Don't you mean "love child?" As in "only a mother could love..."
I have a huge issue with modders putting spoilers on the rear deck of FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CARS! Doesn't "cool" also have to include "relevant?" You can't get much help from a spoiler on a front wheel drive car (though there is some small benefit in some cases), and the cheesy do it yourself spoilers I've seen used don't seem to do much more than add air resistance...

hey man, downforce is downforce. i think wings are pretty stupid in general unless you're driving a track car. just like what the wing did for the Koenigsegg CCR on top gear for the time on their track.

That's true, but some of these civics and neons will barely see 110-115, as opposed to the 245mph of the Koenigseeg.

Downforce is worthwhile if the rest of the car is up to the maneuvers you're undertaking. Stock Honda suspensions are not built for anything but highway and city street driving. I've been a Honda driver for 25 years and I love 'em, but they are not built for what these kids do with them.
A wing in the back of a stock Civic that has fancy wheels, unpainted "ground effect" plastics and a lowered suspension is all show-lowering the suspension just lets these guys scrape their oil pans and expensive "ground effects" while they get less travel and less grip on the road.
You'll note that the Indy 500 starters ALL had Hondas this year-you CAN do a lot with a Honda suspension. But the run of the mill modder just makes his otherwise innocuous car into a frankencivic, not a race car.

look, i'm not backing up ricers here, but most of their trends DO have a basis in actual performance, they just implement them so very poorly.

RICE: Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements
That often sums it up. Although a true 'ricer' is more often characterized by his/her attitude. It is because of that attitude that these modifications emerge.

I agree...
I actually like some of the modifications... when I can see that the person has a real understanding of what they are doing... it can be very cool.
I simply get tired of hearing loud teenagers in their $2500 car with $3000 in junk strapped on... usually with a big dent on the side (which makes me laugh a little on the inside)
How do their parents let them get away with that?

Or mis-implement them. That's what I see around here a lot. Particularly in the suspension-I've seen cars that can't negotiate a simple driveway entrance because they're slung so low. Just asking for trouble on city streets.

well, when i see a car like this I am not too judgmental on the owner, he might have bought it like this and doesn't care about how his bargain looks like
It's the typical 1 hand on the steeringwheel kind of deadbeat that THINKS he is riding a sportscar because it has a big ass spoilerkit, cheap sport exhaust and big shiny rims that expose the RED DRUM BRAKES. Those are the sorry ass nobodies who mess up a fine but ordinary car

At this point I will again remind the Americans here that the car in the third pic down should not be in this thread (if, in fact, it's the genuine article). They came from the factory that way, they are a sports car, they will dick almost everything else out there (including all the Corvettes and Vipers you have) and at one point in the 90's were in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest accelerating production car (with a 3.2 0-60 IIRC).
They're so good that Clarkson actually bought one.

I might be able to host it somewhere else.
Let me know and I'll see what I can do about it after work tomorrow.

I have a 91 Mazda MX-5 (Miata) with an Eibach Pro Kit (Shorter and stiffer springs) and AGX 8 Stage struts. So far nothing else. I plan on putting in sway bars from Racing Beat, a new heavy duty clutch and possibly a Jackson Racing supercharger.
As it sits, I can do autocross (I have a good roll bar). Once I figure out what I want to put in it, I'm going to use it mostly on the track and buy something like Jetta TDI for my daily.
Not all young people are stupid with thier cars, though I have to agree most are. I will NOT be putting any body kits etc on my car. I'm going to leave it as stock looking as possible.
