We had them at school. Those were truly some of the best games I've played.

oh, is that because the apple 1 was really just a kit? i had an apple II it kicked ass for lemonade stand. (i was born in 1980, never really knew how to stretch its legs until after we got rid of it and got an se/30)

Yes, we had them at school. I thought it sucked and back then I thought Apple sucks. Sort of disproves the theory that an Apple in education makes people want to have that system later on in their life. The opposite was true for me. I never looked at Apple ever since then until they switched to PowerPC which caught my attention again.

Everyone at my school hated Apples. Our sysadmin was not the brightest, and all the units crashed frequently, people screwed stuff up and installed crap all over. The Rev A-C iMac's paperclip-activated restart button was quite annoying, and the lab monitor had to keep several paperclips handy as they were used quite often. Then she put on this "Foolproof" security software which made it impossible to do nearly anything. (Of course, me breaking through that software got me kicked off the computers for a couple years.
Last year a few students were trying to make a movie in iMovie but the computer kept messing up and ruining their stuff. Finally one of the guys took them all home and let them use his new iMac G5 and they couldn't believe how fast, stable, and nice it was. Improperly maintained, even a collection of Mac will turn to crap (although OS 8.6/9 made it easier back then).

Back on topic, I remember that outside the //e lab there was a lab of Classics that we all thought were amazing, what with their Mario Teaches Typing and Hypercard. Quite the memories.

When I was 9, my uncle bought us an Apple //c, and then he got me an Apple IIgs in 1987 when I was 12.

I used the IIgs all through college until 1996, when I got a Power Macintosh 7600/120.

The IIgs still sits in my room at home, and I use it for games now and then.

Fun memories.

You might wanna read up on computer history, dude. The Apple II (two!) was not only not Apple's first machine (the Apple I), but it wasn't the first personal computer sold. That honor goes to the MITS Altair 8800.

The Apple II was, though, by far the most successful early personal computer.

I had a pimp Apple //e:

128K Memory card
3x Serial Cards (Printer, Mouse, & 300 baud modem)
80 Column Card
BASIC Co-Processor & assembler
Color CRT
Joystick

The only thing I didn't have on it was a Midi sound card.

Some of my favorite games (some of them still my favorite games):

Ultima III, IV, V
AutoDuel
2400 A.D.
The Bard's Tale I, II, III
Impossible Mission (it really was impossible due to a game glitch. )
Montezuma's Revenge
Biostode (sp? The one with the gladiators on flying discs, cut off limbs with axes and stuff)
RescueRaiders (aka Armor Alley)
LodeRunner
Conan

I'm sure I could think of some more. I never had Oregon Trail, but I played it all the time at school on the IIgs there.

You can still play those games with an Apple II emulator like Virtual ][, which is a kickass emulator for the Mac.

Yep, and I do. That's why they were/are my favorite games.

I break out Ultima III, IV, or V occasionally to see how fast I can beat them.

Oops, I forgot Karateka. Another leet game.

Apple //c was first, hated it....all in ones in college, not too shabby did a few papers on them. (can't remember the model)...

...then one day on my way to the computer lab, I passed the sultry farmgirl selling beets. Yes the campus had farm-fresh vegetable stand for rent OK? Then, ....aw hell.
Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...
