Hey guys just wanted to brag about getting a DS Lite. I also got Metroid Hunters. The multi on that is killer I very impressed! Silky smooth frame rates and thw WiFi from one cards is quick and easy.

But I am having issues setting up my PB Airport (not extreme) with it. On the nintendo wbesite they give the Airport Extreme 5 stars but nothing about normal Airport. Have any of you guys go it to work with a DS? I see my PB but with auto or manual settings it can't actually connect. Ideas?

I know this is the lounge but I know there are lots of DS fans in here so I thought it best to ask.

Thanks. I if I get it up and running we can battle online

Geez, I feel like I'm 12 again with a super nintendo. Now bring on the Wii!

*bump*

just one bump to make sure.

The WiFi in the lite is the same as the original DS.
So anyone else got it working with a standard Airport card?
I have searched around on the net but no real answer.

Thnaks to anyone who can help.

Metroid Prime Hunters sucks.

You should try Advanced Wars: DS, New Super Mario Bros, Castelvania, Mario Kart, Tetris DS, Meteos, or Wario Ware Touched.

I'm in Sydney Australia. I got it at JB HiFi which was the last one, but still have them at Kmart and EB.

I really like Metroid. But will have a look at the others suggested.

I still have had no luck so I guess it's not compatible

Not sure if I will get a new card or the nintendo USB thingy?

Ths issue with the Nintendo USB adaptor is that it only works under WindowsXP… and I have no idea if it would do under VirtualPC… has anyone tried it?

Ironic enough, Buffalo (the makers of the Nintendo USB thingy), have some Wi-Fi model compatible with Mac OS… I will do some search about it and another working options.

Well, this Buffalo pc-card would do it,

http://www.buffalotech.com/products/...p;categoryid=7

nevertheless, I guess you would preffer an USB model… could be any of those highly rated belkin or d-link models Mac compatible?

http://www.nintendowifi.com.au:80/cu...rtedRouters.do

do some search and let us know

bummer the nintendo usb doesn't work on a mac. I do have a pc also but.

Guess I will have to get a new card. There is a list on www.nintendowifi.com.

I think playing Mario Cart, Metroid Hunters with some in another country is
so cool

There's no reason to use a USB WIFI adapter when there are a ton of ethernet WIFI routers listed as DS compatible. The USB WIFI router is mostly meant for novice parents and kids who need a simple solution for DS WIFI connectivity.

I had issues with my airport express, DS, and encryption. I eventually just turned it off. Seeing as how we're on the subject of DSs and wireless, anyone else have this issue?

I don't have Airport Express, but my brother's DS has no problem connecting to my WEP encrypted D-Link router. I wish the DS supported WPA, but I have to cut Nintendo some slack since it took Apple a good long time to get WPA support up and running.

All I remember about setting my DS up to work online, is that it was so quick and easy, that I don't even remember what I did.

I wish I had saw this list earlier! Metroid Prime Hunters sucks hard. I'd rather play a crappy or unknown FPS on my old PC with a Geforce 2.

I originally wanted to buy MarioKart DS, but I saw Metroid Prime Hunters and Animal Crossing used, so I picked them up. I didn't really give Animal Crossing a chance, but playing it felt like a grind.

I returned the 2 games and picked up MarioKart and Advanced Wars. Suckily they didn't have a case for MarioKart so I'm missing the album art and manuals and the idiot at the store forgot to freaking put the game cartridge for Advanced Wars in the case. I got charged for 2 games, but only left with one! I called the store a couple hours later and told them the situation. They realized their mistake and told me to come pick it up, but I have to wait till tomorrow. Hopefully they didn't forget...

I also picked up Brain Age, but have yet to open it for fear of it sucking too... I'm not a fan of Sudoku, but am curious to know my brain age. Is Brain Age worth keeping?

My next purchases will be Tetris DS, Meteos, NSMB, and WarioWare Touched.

I had a little problem setting up my DS for online. basically we have a D-Link wireless router, and we were using WAP encryption.... the DS only supports WEP, so a quick change and i was up and running. and it's a good 20 meters away from the router.

As far as games.... they look N64-ish which is very adequate given the screen size.

Games i got when i baught it:
-New Super Mario Brothers
-Mario Kart DS

Looking forward to:
-Metroid Prime Hunters
-Brain Age (all of them...i was blown away by the demo that was included)
-Zelda (obviously). the idea of a zelda game with the added puzzel solving possible with a touch screen seems quite enticing.
-Wario Ware
And hopefully, a version of Super Smash Brothers

Demo Metroid Prime before buying! A handheld FPS with a quality title sounds badass in theory, but in the end its just another FPS. The whole stylus pen aiming didn't work for me and neither did the combo controls. I thought I could get used to the combo controls, but I've played far too much Halo to forget how nice a joystick is. Maybe if I could hook up an Xbox controller I'd enjoy it more...

For those having connection problems with Airport Extreme, you might want to make sure that your WiFi isn't running exclusively in "g" mode.

from nintendowifi.com:

Does your router use 802.11g?
If your router uses 802.11g, it may default to only the "g" band. This setting will not work with the DS. Check your router's settings (typically in the "Wireless" tab) and make sure that it is set to "Auto," "Mixed," or something similar

If your in London (UK) hoping to get your hands on the Nintendo DS Lite tomorrow, you might want to consider this .... http://www.techdigest.tv/2006/06/retailer_gives_.html . Good luck

Cheers

PS>> Just picked up Metroid Prime: Hunters ... i have to try it. at first the control seems difficult. but then once u get used to the button-layout + Stylus configuration, it feels fine.... no worse than a home console controller for a FPS. i do like the way it handles like a mouse+keyboard combo though.

Being honest, the new screen is worth the 'update'…

A friend of mine came to work a few days ago with one. I'm jealous, and I'm going to go buy one after I get out of a few hours of overtime work.

He has Mario and Mario Kart, so I'll get the same two for now.

I bought a DS Lite the day they came out (got lucky one of the last few) anyway, when I turned it on, the lower screen was slightly dimmer than the top screen. I figured since it was the touch screen that might be the case, however looking at the photo, it doesn't appear any different than the top.

Is the bottom screen suppose to be SLIGHTLY dimmer than the top screen?

There is a difference. I think the brightness is the same, but there is a different coating on the bottom that makes it look a little different then the top screen. It's very subtle though, if your is off by a lot, you may have a problem.

I drove around for an hour looking for a DS Lite. Everyone was sold out, and then I found a GameStop that had some.
I really like the DS Lite's look. I wasn't too eager on the original DS though.

I bought Metroid, Mario, Mario Kart, and Brain Age.
Too much fun.

Another fun game is Phoenix Wright. Having a blast with that right now. Very linear in the story but the graphics and dialog are worth it.

I went to a mates place on the weekend for some wifi action. he has the old DS and was so shocked and kinda pissed at how bright and colour rich the Lite is. I just kinda giggle and went back to playing.

I have to disagree with everybody about Metroid Hunters. I love it. It plays so well with a thumb stylus (pen sux). Also has killer multi options even with one card.

I would like to ask whatd the best game you guys have played with good multi options. I know Mario Kart DS is great. But I played Metroid Pinball and the only game was one pinball and first to 100,000. That was it! Also Mario (the N64 one) has crap multi games to. Also Nanostray has crappy multi.

But what is the best ones esp. single card play? I would say mario Kart would top. Only draw back is that your the ghost character if you don't have the card. But you can play everything else! Also the new Mario DS has great mini games.

What else? Do share

My girlfriend used a snow Airport to play online at Uni.

Do you have a wired router? My wired Linksys wreaks havoc with my DS's online play.

MM-o4, I agree Metroid is great. This morning I finished the first stage/planet/ship thingy. I am playing with the stylus and I am very impressed with the control scheme.
Last night some people came over and one had a DS Lite and we played some multiplayer. I'd have to vote for either the new Mario or Metroid for some really fun multiplayer. There is a mode in Mario where Mario and Luigi have to run around the stage collecting x amount of stars. Power-ups are around and jumping on your opponent makes them drop their star. Very fun.

Mine is the exact same way. It always feels like it is broken because it wiggles whenever you touch it. Kind of annoying, but so far that is my only annoyance.

I bought a black Lite this weekend, and I have to agree with angelmb, its worth it over a DS just for the screen. I've never had a problem connecting online through a Netgeat wireless router, and the Lite is the same after transferring the Wifi settings.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.
