Howdy All,

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best blog software/platform out there these days?

I'm tempted to do something quick-n-easy like Blogger or Livejournal because of the simplicity (and leaning towards Blogger because of the AdSense integration so I can make MILLIONS on my briliant insights (heh)).

Then again, I don't like being tied down to a default layout, would like server access so I could do a little SEO tweaking, add forums and other features, etc. I've used WordPress in the past and love it, but I'm a cheap@ss and don't want to pay a hosting fee.

Any recommendations/preferences?

I'm no blogger, but the award for easiest blog software has to go to Apple's iWeb. But it's not the most feature packed by any means, and also requires a .mac account ( I think ).

I use BlogSpot and love it. Then again my demands aren't as high as your own. The only opinion I can give is that I'm very happy with BlogSpot.

yeah, that was the only caveat with iWeb -- the .mac account. I own iWeb though and like it quite a bit...

Isn't there a way around using iWeb strictly with a .mac account? I just don't know how to do it.

I'm a Wordpress fan. I pay $5 a month for hosting... so the price isn't so bad...

Yes, you can, but I don't think the blog (people posting comments to your post) features work.

Yes!

iWeb: Export to folder , then upload to any FTP server

or

iWeb: Export to WebDav folder

If you want incremental uploads, use rsync:
  • In iWeb go to menu "File - Publish to a Folder...", select a folder, like in your home directory ("~/"), ~/Sites/iWeb/Data/
  • The run the following command in the terminal (type all in one line!):
  • rsync -rca --delete -c --progress --stats ~/Sites/iWeb/Data/ user@yourdomain.com:/iweb

In all of my ignorance, I am indebted to you. Many thanks.

Don't even bother with iWeb. It's code is chunky and has poor semantic mark up. Very hard to plug in to as well.

Go with Wordpress. Wordpress is very easy to customize and post with. It's also very easy to install themes and plugins. Most important is there are Ajax plugins so at least you're getting modern tech in there. Ajax and scriptalicious are ****ing awesome!

Seconded. I'm right now trying to integrate parts of iWeb into Wordpress. We'll see how it works out.
