A much delayed sequel to the pube shaving thread...
Is there any health or aesthetic disadvantages in using your mom's wax instead of your same-ol' gilette?

Has anyone done it?

Not that I want to do it. Just asking...

Yeah, don't do it. There's no shame in stubble.

And grow your hair while you're at it. Bleedin' skinheads.

Wait a minute. I thought you said "waxing off" and "facial hair" in the same sentence. Silly of me...

Oh wait-you DID!

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Waxing damages the hair folicles. If it's inconsequential hair on an inconsequential part of the body (legs, for example) that's no real problem. But waxing facial hair not only leads to a LOSS of the ability to grow that hair, it can damage the skin too (facial hair is not as superficial as the hair on your legs).

Even waxing off hair around your eyebrows (deleting a monobrow, for example) can cause damage. Plucking is better, though slower. Or just ignore it. But don't wax your face!

If waxing is genuinely bad for the skin then why do women do it so much? that said what part are you planning on waxing? Personally I just once a day run over my face with my electric razor.

I know of one person that does this and he says it doesn't hurt and that he prefers it to blades.

Facial hair is different, as is facial skin. The roots are not nearly as superficial as with leg hair or "that sensitive bikin area," and since they're involved in the deeper layers of the skin removing the hair that deeply can damage and ultimately prematurely age the skin. Think "this woman's been heavy-duty tanning since she was 10, and now she's 40 and looks like she's made of leather." Yes, that bad.

There are certain things in life that shouldn't be changed. I'll take my razor. If anyone starts a "Makeup for Men" post, I'll gag.

I was thinking the same but I guess some people have a high threshold...that or it really doesn't hurt as bad as we think it does.

Or his facial hair is particularly superficial, for whatever reason. Is he by any chance blonde? And does he also have very little body hair elsewhere? (No, I don’t mean down there, sillies! Get your minds out of the gutter! I meant chest/leg hairs!)

I would definitely do it as well, if it were ‘tenable’, so to speak. As it is, no way. I have very deep follicles (the one time I tried waxing a part of my leg—or rather, someone else did it for, uh, to me—she drew blood at the first try, simply by pulling out the hairs), so I’d end up in the ICU in a split second. No thanks. But if there weren’t this minor side effect, I’d definitely do it; I loathe stubbles (especially on myself), and beards are even worse. Smoothness all the way.

Of course it would hurt like hell. I do not wax and do not intend to, just shave and it is enough for me it should be enough for them. And waxing the bikini area is extremely painful and not necessary at all.

i shave my face with a mere Gillete Sensor 3 (2-bladed cartridge) and hot water. No creams, aftershaves or anything. No cuts, no rash, no infections.

No he is mixed, Chinese and Spaniard. And yes he is a metrosexual. If women can wax pubic hair that seems like a tree's roots, then a man could wax his facial hair.

Could is different from should. It is stupid; it seems our society is obssessed with the removal of every hair on our bodies, male and female. What is so ugly about pubic hair or stubbles on a man's face.

There’s nothing particularly ugly about stubbles—but they itch and cause rashes, both in the guy himself and in anyone who happens to make a habit out of regularly snuggling/kissing him.

And unless we want it to grow into beards of Methuselah-like proportions (which is not only impractical and get unhygienic very easily, it’s also ugly as all hell), we have to shave it off, which—if we want to get rid of the rash- and itch-inducing stubbles as well—we do with razors with various intervals, which hurts (some, at least), creates cuts, and is generally a pain in the ass. Waxing is probably not much more painful (for me, at least), but far more efficient.

To that I have to say, there are two types of people in this world who go around beardless, women and boys. I am neither.

Ah, so you’d fall into the “ugly as all hell” category, then?

I've seen this done. Wax doesn't work well on the course hair that grows out of most men's faces.

It didn't pull anything up on the one guy I saw try it, and they tried several times.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Probably, I've got a bushy beard. I don't care how ugly it is, I can't get rid of it now. It's been too long since I've seen my chin though. Hmm...

I pause for a second when a blad catches a hair and pulls it. I can't imagine waxing and pulling them ALL off. Good gods... sounds like something a gangster would use to get information outta ya.

"We can ballpin your toes or ..."
"What, man, what?!"
"Wax your face."
"Noooo! I'll tell you anything, you hear me! Anything! Just don't wax my face!"

To be fair, beards do look good on a small minority of people (men, generally). My father, for instance, would look ridiculous without his beard—partly because of the huge scar he’s got across his chin and lower cheeks from taking a small unchartered flight over the handlebars of his bike when he was 12 or so.

But yeah—on most people (again, mostly men), a full-grown beard is little better than a furry mask. In my opinion, obviously.

Edit: In response to Albert Pujols’ post, obviously, not olePigeon’s.

olePigeon: waxing is not quite as painful as taking the pain of one pulled hair and multiplying it by however many hairs are being pulled. Almost, but not quite.

Some facial hair is nice. I've got a lil bit bellow my lip as shown in the toon in my sig. But it's not out of control. I shave all of the rest. I could grow the world's worst looking neck beard but I avoid that. I am now at the point where I need to visit my philips electric once a day. I keep it in my gym bag most days.

waxing facial hair could be very convenient, if I find evidence that its healthy I may consider doing it.

I also love the smooth feel. I try to accomplish this with a razor by going over my face many times.
But I shave my skin raw and cut myself at times. It hurts! and it takes forever!

Can't you just threaten your beard like Chuck Norris?
