And I think that might be why school teachers don't pick-up on it. They hear it, they just don't realize it.
Imagine if your TXT ring-tone was the sound of a pencil being dropped on a desk. Think they'd notice that too?

This thing only works properly when it is emmited from some sort of special 'thingy'. ie, the effect, which is to allow young people to hear it but older people to not, will not work coming from normal speakers.
I seem to recall this system being proposed in the UK to stop crowds of unsociable teenagers, know as 'Chavs', from hanging around outside places like McDonalds.
Edit: Oh ye, I can hear it, but i guess I should be able to, being 16 and all..

Evidence? It seems there are a few here that can't hear it, and i have no idea what kind of 'thingy' would work. It's a simple high-frequency tone. Not a whole lot you can do with that.

Definitely, and I'm 31. As for the special thingy being involved, I really doubt the speakers should be much relevant (disregarding how powerful they might be of if the pitch is beyond their dynamic range).

I’m 18, and can hear it very clearly. Incidentally, I’m getting a hearing checkup tomorrow, because I seem to be losing my hearing in my right ear.
My dad’s 65, and he can’t hear it at all.

Yeah, on second listen, my experience was more like this. Of course, my first listen was on earbuds, and my second listen was out of my work computer's speaker (PowerMac G5). So who knows.

i normally keep my volume down to a minimal (around 1-2% of max) because my speakers are mounted to my monitor (PC). And when the sound ever gets too loud, it causes a slight distortion of the picture quality on my screen.
So when i played the clip, i was like 'what the  '... But when i turned up the volume a few notches i heard it loud and clear. (i'm in my mid-20's)

I imported it into Amadeus which seemed to crank the volume up quite a lot and it sounded like hiss on a tv with no carrier.
What is it SUPPOSED to sound like?

That’s pretty much it: a very high, ringing tone.
Railroader: does your dog react to ‘doggy flutes’? If your dog doesn’t react at all to a tone like this, he probably has reduced hearing in the highest part of the spectre—his hearing can still be absolutely perfect in the normal range (the one that contains leash-rattling, for instance), of course.
(Erm, yeah, by the way—please tell me he freaks out ‘cause he wants to go for a walk, not because he’s scared... right?)
