File this one in the who cares department, but some will find the following interesting. A few people around here and elsewhere have made the claim that Apple's modern branding has dropped "Macintosh" in favor of the abbreviated "Mac," but that's not completely true. Take a look at this excerpt from an Apple news email sent out today, entitled "Save on iPod for your next promotion.":
(It's the button on the bottom left corner of the image, in case you are looking.)

hey guys, since apple has dropped the 'i' from its laptop line, and since its rumored to be doing the same with the iMac, what will become of the iPod? its very unAppley to have one of the products represent an obsolete naming scheme.

That's the funniest picture ever....
Back to topic...
Apple lies about using "Macintosh" anymore
Microsoft lies about Vista being out in 2004

I don't see this happening. Apple won't be dropping the "iMac" name anytime soon.

I don't think Apple's gonna drop the iMac from the line as it is. Though I never thought they'd drop the iBook. Shows what I know. I don't see them naming it just the Mac though, because that would really make for confusing conversations.
I got a new Mac!
Yah what kind?
A Mac.
Yes I realize that, what kind?
A Mac.

I got a new Mac!
Oh yah? Don't you love the all in one form factor?
What? No dude, I got the tower one.

Apple isn't going to drop the 'iMac' and 'iPod' names anytime soon: the brand names are still way too strong. Maybe in a couple of years, but not yet.

They're never going to drop the iPod name. It's almost become a generic term for mp3 player, much like xerox is for the photo copier and ping-pong is for table tennis.
