Though I miss the stars in summer, I love the colors.
Since the sun doesn't rise much higher than 54° at noon, late afternoon stretches into a slow, slow sunset with warm colors and well defined shadows, then into a sweet slow twilight.
It's nice with the occasional 86°F (30°C) days in summer, but the "apesh*t insane" definition above does seem to apply to that winter thing, I agree.

Helsinki, yeah. Maybe we could do a pagan midnight photo shoot on the longest day, weather permitting? Bonfires and fertility dances, incl. our local 'maidens hopping naked in midnight flower fields' and all that, perhaps.
What do you guys do to celebrate it?

Get drunk! That's how we celebrate everything. 
But yeah, if the weather allows it would be great to get a good photo shoot. It's the 24th IIRC.
Love Helsinki and Finnland btw. Can't wait to get back there.
