Here is a concise review of the new Flock beta 0.7:

Flock was just released so I wanted to see what it was about. Remember, we talked about it half a year ago in this thread?

I opened it up and it looked just like Firefox. Oh, it's based on Firefox, ok.

It said "please set up flock, this will take 5 minutes" oh god. Ok, so I just clicked OK like 12 times and finished it in 10 seconds.

I noticed that there was a little bit of fluff on the floor so I went to pick it up.

Came back and looked at Flock again, to see that it was exactly the same as Firefox, but lamer.

What in Firefox comes anywhere close to Flock's RSS reader?

So, basically you spent 60 seconds with an application that was designed to make life easier for Flickr/RSS users and you weren't impressed...?

Just tryin' to make sure I know where your "review" is coming from

Flock is not for everybody, and if you're not into blogging, tagging, photo sharing and RSS then there's little point in using it. If you are into any/all of the above then there's no browser out there that's even close in functionality.

It might be an idea understanding the product before dissing it.

I really like the newsreader in Flock and the blog support is a nice feature. Sure you can get this in Firefox, but I like the Flock interface and layout....very clean, very Mac.

Hmm, overall this doesn't seem like so bad of a browser. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like so great of a browser, either, because it doesn't have all that much that Firefox doesn't already offer (I don't care about the blogging stuff really).

Flock seems to have a spell checker built in. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have a way to make it spell check as you type, and it doesn't seem to use the OS's built-in spell check dictionary, so you have to train it to learn a whole bunch of words all over again.

It has movable tabs - and when I tried this in Firefox, it seems to work there now, too. Sweet, they must have added this to Firefox sometime since the last time I tried this.

The emacs keyboard shortcuts don't work, unlike Camino and all the WebKit browsers...

Okay, this version has one show-stopper beta bug - it's really hard to change the default search engine for the toolbar search field to anything other than Yahoo. Oh sure, it pretends to let you change it, and there's a menu in the preferences for default search engine, but if you set it to Google, and close the prefs window, it'll still search with Yahoo, and if you open the prefs again, it'll be set to Yahoo again. Sorry, the answer to "do you Yahoo?" is NO in my case.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

There is one thing I like about Flock, being able to work offline, like I do with iCab.

Flock = but it still suffers the same problems as Firefox.

However, in some ways Flock > Camino, and in other ways Camino > Flock.

My girlfriend is friends with one of the people on the Flock team. I've never tried Flock myself, but they're a pretty Mac-centric team from what I've seen.

I have revised my original assessment. I now give it two thumbs down:
