Well, this is actually old news that's resurfacing again in all the news media, but it's fascinating nonetheless. Using embryonic stem cells with organic fibers in a sort of vitamin soup, they were able to get the nerve endings in the spinal cord of a rat to regrow and reconnect.

The rat went from 0% mobility below its lower back to over 85% mobility after the treatment. Just absolutely amazing. A possible treatment for palegic and sclerosis patients.

Here's a link with a video [Warning: Might be a little unsettling].

Oh, I see why it's resurfacing. This breakthrough first occured in Israel, now American scientists are recreating the experiment.

There was also a really good show on Discovery that covered this. I'm glad that it's finally making it to the U.S. I know Christopher Reeves flew to Israel to examin the work.

Thanks. I am just surprised that I don't see this mentioned more. I'm sure I heard about this at the time but I guess your memory is better than mine.

I'm a science nut and like to keep up with that stuff. Mind you, I'm not very smart, but I do enjoy science in general. If I was actually competent in math, I'd probably be an astronomer or exobiologist. As it stands, I'll stick to graphic design.

I wasn't going to admit it but I do listen to the scientific american podcast so I guess I have an interest in science as well. I am usually very up date with news from Israel too, this must have slipped by.
