As we approach the first Tour De France in 7 years without Lance Armstrong. To those who follow cycling think will win? There are so many people this year that could end up winning the Tour. This year is anyone's Tour.

Ulrich finally has a chance to win his Second.
8 Americans have a chance to win their first.

There are only 3 Americans with a legitamate chance - Landis, Leipheimer, and Hincapie

Bobby Julich, Christian Vande Velde and Dave Zabriskie (three other americans) will be supporting Ivan Basso, while the other two americans, Chris Horner and Fred Rodriguez will will also be playing supporting roles at Davitamon-Lotto.

My bets are on Basso, but I would like to see Hincapie win.

I'm going to take a risk and say that the guy with the yellow jersey at the begining of the last leg will win. I could be wrong about that, but that's the risk I'll take.

I don't know that any of the contenders from last year are really "contenders" this year. It's hard to say because it's between them now, not between them and Lance. It'll be interesting.

I doubt there is a chance that Hincape would win, nor would I think Landis for that matter.

I would be thinking Basso v Ullrich (its really hard to know what Ullrich will do).

Being an Australia I also think that Cadel Evans will improve on his Top 10 placing last year.

Perhaps we'll all get a surprise and it'll be someone else???

I'm now VERY interested in how the Tour is going to run. The "big contenders" seem to ALL be out of the running because of the doping scandal just broken. Who's left that can be a contender?

Heh. I just read an article in an article from a Canadian airline magazine (July 2006 edition) mentioning how Cervélo did well to hookup with Ivan Basso.

I can't help but think of that scene in Dodgeball. "After I was diagnosed with lung, liver, and testicular cancer, I went on to win 5 tour De France... So, what's killing you that's keeping you from competing?"
