Is there a website that highlights the best states to buy fireworks? I'm tired of stopping in to these side of the road places only to find overprices sparklers...

Well, I don't know where you're from, but every one around here (central Iowa) goes to Missouri. They have stands set up practically on the border with some really good stuff.

Everyone around here who is serious about their fireworks (and people in my area are VERY serious about them, it seems) goes to the rez for their fireworks.

My friend's sister used to live near us - she actually had her pyrotechnician license so she could buy the BIG fireworks.

Nearly every year, it's not worth us going to the local fireworks show since our neighbors put on a better one, just without music. We get colorful fireworks going off all over, 360 degrees around us.

I'm near Washington DC. Many places don't have much more than smoke "bombs."

Ugh...

I hear Pennsylvania has some good ones (if you aren't from Pennsylvania). Some strange law where only out of state people can buy them...

In WI you can buy the good stuff, you just have to buy a permit that says you will only use it on the 4th of july under supervision bla bla bla legal crap, etc. Look for the fireworks STORES along the highway. Usually out near the country somewhere.

Or you could go here

It sells booze, liquor, fireworks, and it's a gas station.

Here are a few videos of people with a different take on the Mentos & Coke phenomenon.

This is almost as fun as fireworks.

Is that the one in the median on I-24? It's always fun to drive on the interstates around Chattanooga at night. All of those big fireworks places go overboard with the neon.

Phantom just opened their largest store in New Hampshire, approx. 15 seconds away from the Massachusetts border (they are illegal here).

After redeeming bottles I'll be heading up to NH for cheap booze, kegs and fireworks, oh happy day!

I think it might have something to do with the state motto up there in NH

That's a pretty sweet motto. I wonder what the inmates think of it.

NH is the new Mass IMHO.

Everytime I visit, most of the people I meet turn out to be originally from Mass. Beautiful state, no sales tax, cheap beer, fireworks all over the place.

I think at some point in my life I will move there, buy a few acres, and build a house.

New Hampshire is a very nice state. I've canoed the Connecticut river and climbed a few mountains there. The National Forest land is amazing. Mt. Washington is an experience to never forget.

Stay away from Hanover though. They're far too snobbish for me.

EDIT: and the woodworking from that state is near peerless.

I assume you've also been to Vermont, another beautiful state, even more so I think.

NH for the friendly people, VT for the scenery.

As for the woodworking I agree (of course) this whole area (New England) is great for woodworking....hell, we have the oldest houses in the country...and those cranky old tyme Yankees know how to build

Yes, I've driven around and through both VT and NH. I liked the hills/mountains and natural areas of NH better.

Beautiful work, really quite stunning.

A pet peeve of mine is the bumper sticker that says "This car climbed Mt. Washington"

Really? wow, I'm amazed you were able to drive on a road....maybe that's why I dislike Mt Washington so much, but in the winter the weather at the peak is nothing short of amazing.

If you are ever in NH again I suggest checking out Mt Monadnock, no paved road to the top and on a clear day you can see CT. Plus the trails range from beginner to some pretty impressive boulder-strewn routes.

Also, if you want to see some mean lumber lards go see Maine, quite an untapped wilderness. maybe I'll live in Maine instead......at any rate I'll be staying in New England somewhere (preferably near the water).

Those were stone, not wood. My wooden house was built in 1764.
