News, the most exciting thing to come out of Apple for 10.5 is tabs in the finder. That's worth $199 right there:

Some people don't even try.

Why bother making a video and breaking your NDA to show only that? Seems fishy to me.

If you get a chance to film 10.5 for 10 seconds why not show the amazing new features other than just a tab in the finder (same as the other fake) and the About this mac. As if that proves anything.

a 1 second glimpse of some killer new feature would do more.

Someone ought to make a good fake that looked somewhat more original one of these days

well i was going to scream FAKE!!11@@!! on the basis that you could fake that with safari,

but then i noticed that in the doc safari isn't running. Still totally fake though, but what a crap way to implement a tabbed Finder anyway!

Wonder if this is the same thing Windows did by integrating IE into the OS... Safari is the Finder?

And that is exactly why MS has so many security issues. That would be the stupidest thing Apple could ever do.

Hmmmm... Hmmmmm...

I don't know what to say. It could still be faked.

I've been told though that 10.5 is under pretty low security right now. All it takes is one Apple employee with a chip on his soldier...

A genuine Apple leak is always followed by "WHAT! How un-Mac-like! This will eat up all my ram and force me to use tainted chipsets and the older version was 20x better this is just destroying the whole product philosophy look how ugly it is" etc

The tabbed finder? It's so unoriginal (and unprovocative) that it has to be false.

In fact that video was so lame that I chuckled to myself. This is not real.

Well, several good signs on this video. The toolbar gradient at the top of the Finder window goes from dark to light. The bottom of the window does the opposite. It starts at light at the top and goes to dark. This fits with how Apple does the plastic look. Secondly, as far as I'm aware it's impossible to make something like this work in a theme changer, and I don't think you can edit that window in interface builder. If this is a fake, it would had to have been messed with entirely in a video editing program. Not that that's impossible.

Ya but think about it...

A set of obviously fake 10.5 screenshots emerges, showing no new interface elements just skin borrowed from iTunes and a tab. They are proven fake. Then another set emerges like 2 days later, these have the same boring look as the first but they are more well done. Then they are proven fake. Now a video surfaces, the same boring intereface upgrade, the same boring tab. Each fake effort is just building off of the one before it.

To be fair, as I previously mentioned, the iTunes skin is currently the skin for everything Apple. All of iLife, all the Pro apps, etc. It's kind of obvious the next Finder will look like that.

Interestingly, it looks just like the Finder in the faked 10.5 screenshots, right down to the blue left sidebar.

P.S. I rehosted the video here.

P.P.S. I still think the idea of a tabbed Finder is a good one.

I'm wondering a bit if it's not the same guy, just with a video now.

I doubt that 10.5 (Leopard) is still going to have the same lame system icons that 10.4 has. If the ugly icons are still around, Apple is getting feedback!

I think the tabbed finder is a good one as well, but I pray it's not even on the top 50 of what's new in Leopard. Ugh... if OS X needs to start highlighting a tabbed Finder... maybe we should fear Vista

They're most likely pressing the disks to go out at WWDC. It could be an employee from the pressing plant just took one and reported it as "broken" or something.

The sidebar is exactly like the iLife stuff, which is exactly like Apple did last time they updated the Finder.

Trust me, it would be far easier than that to leak it. No one will tell me what is in 10.5, but I'm really surprised at how easy access Apple employees have to it apparently.

Just 'cause no one else has mentioned it - iCal and Address Book are still two separate apps, if this is indeed legit (they're still in the Dock that way, anyhow).

I didn't get it from Digg. I got it from Macrumors that is why it is linked to the story on that page.

And who cares if it did come from digg? I mean really.

I'm neither going to say it's fake or real... because it really didn't show us anything.

Tabbed Finder and an updated "about this computer" isn't much to go on.

Spend 5 seconds at digg scanning headlines and you can faithfully predict what SWF will start a thread about the next day.

Check out hey zeus. He's a RR stalker.

Nice knee-jerk as Kevin pointed out.

Yeah, I just noticed that now (and just learned what "taking an age" means too). It's amazing what a public forum can do for bandwidth, even with such a small file as that one (under 500 KB).

Hopefully my webhoster for the video will hold up.

Who cares? I don't read digg, and this is quite pertinent to a Mac forum. Anyways, he says he got it from MacRumors.com which makes perfect sense, considering I'd expect SWG to read that site too, and the MacRumors link is listed in the very first post.

Kneejerk reaction indeed.

If this is actually real then it'd be a useful feature to me - especially if it carries with it the "Open in Tabs" feature (i.e. you got a bunch of bookmarks stacked in your Bookmarks Bar and can open them simultaneously).
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

Yep, fake or not, I think a lot of people would like a tabbed Finder. It's an obvious evolution of the Finder.

Whether or not the Finder has been fixed in other aspects is important too, but they could do both at the same time. Then again maybe not. They've had forever to FTFF and so far they haven't. I mean really, how hard is it to implement better adjustments of column widths, and disk space reporting on the desktop?
