Hi,
I got an offer for my Powerbook on this forum, I said I would ship COD as per his request, but am having some second thoughts. Is it safe to accept CODs on a forum like this? It said in the USPS website the shipments were insured for $1000, but is that still in effect if I get a bad check? How exactly does COD work? Do I get the actual check, or does the post office give me the money and cash the check for themselves? Just curious...

Don't do it extremely likely a fraud. He will send you a forged Cashiers check or forged cheque and you will be out the money and a PowerBook.

So the insurance doesn't cover forged checks? What's the point of the insurance, then?

to cover the posts butts, if the post loses the powerbook, than you get whatever amount you do the insurance for. if you could post a link to where the offer was given, or if in PM copy and paste, that would be good. as mac write said, it probably is a scam

Insurance covers you if the item is never delivered - i.e. if USPS loses it. I don't know if it covers fraud. You may want to ask the USPS.

And yeah, COD is likely fraud.

Sounds fishy to me, go the paypal route or cash. If the buyer cannot handle paypal, let alone cash, then that will raise a lot of flags and I'd steer clear.

people always will. there are "new batches" of people going online and selling/ buying/ trading stuff that have no idea about the scammers. this will go on as long as people sell/buy/trade stuff online
