I've gotten these bug bites in several places on my body, and I suspect that they are chigger bites. Apparently these things require a magnifying glass to see, which is what has made me a little parnaoid about them lately. Their bites are itchy, and occurred in places that are covered up in clothes (e.g. between my sock-covered toes).

Anybody have any chigger stories? Suggestions? Remedies?

Chiggers are on my **** list right now.

Having gone camping too many times to count when I was younger, I am a veteran of the "chigger sensation." I don't remember what I used, but waiting was always involved.

Sorry. I know it sucks.

OH...ME! ME! I know a "cure".

Well, not so much a cure as somethingn to make the itching go away.

Clear finger nail polish.

Cover the bite with the polish. It seals the bite off from air, and the itching goes away. Works everytime.

Try it an let us know!

Funny, 3 weeks ago after spending the day out in the backyard I had about 5 nasty bites on my body which I though were flea bites even though I am sure my cats don't have any.

I also remember that day I saw these tiny little red bugs on me but I've seen them every summer but never think twice about them.

Guess these are the same things that bit me.

"Hello, what have we here?

They aren't itching a whole lot right now, but I'll keep this remedy in mind, and may very well use it

They look like ticks. I wonder why the adult chigger has eight legs like an arachnid, but the young only have six?

No, that would be chigros.

Seriously, I don't know where you live but I thought that chiggers only lived in the South and in Spanish moss?

Here's what has worked for us:

Spray your yard with mosquito killer
Keep grass, weeds, vines and shrubs trimmed
Buy some DEET-based insect repellant
If you have pets that go outside, give them a quick spritz when they come back in, then do the same for yourself

Sucks, but hey its war.

What up my chigger!

I'm just getting over a recent attack of chigger bites. It's defintly weird when they bite you becuase the bite marks seem to just come out of nowhere.

Chiggers are friggen nasty.

"Contrary to popular belief, the larvae do not burrow deep into the skin and live there, and neither do coverings such as fingernail polish kill the chigger per se. Rather, the larvae pierce the skin and inject powerful enzymes that digest cellular contents, which become liquified and are consumed by the larvae."

Ya know, if some of these bugs were bigger, like the size of a cat, we'd all be royally f*cked.

I just got them about three weeks ago myself north of Oroville, CA. Wash you clothes and bedding, then take a long shower. Use a loofa or something to that effect and scrub the **** out of yourself. Worked for me.

We just washed our bedding, hopefully that will do it. My wife has a chigger bite on her butt, I have 4 or 5 bites in random places on my body.

Thanks for your advice!
